it could be a phantom pregnancy, or it could be a real pregnancy, you need to take her to the vets and let them take a look at her. my dog had a phantom pregnancy and was very unwell with it the vets were not sure she would survive. she did survive and never had another phantom pregnancy. I would not waste to much time before you get her to the vets.
good luck

It could be a phantom pregnancy, my dog did that a few years back. she even went as far as producing the milk and feeding the puppies that we had at the time. Have you noticed anything else about her that has changed? Perhaps you are just noticing that her nipples look bigger because you think she is pregnant? When mine were pregnant, it took awhile for the nipples to get bigger, so it depends on how far along she would to get an idea of it that would be an accurrate sign to go by. When my golden retrievers get pregnant, they want food 24/7. It gets to the point when the once trained to take food out of people's hands easy without bitting, turns into the person's hand as a snack as well. They also to me look more peaceful and act a certain way. Have you ever had a dog that was pregnant? I would take her to a local vet and have them feel her stomach to see if she is, my vet can give me an estimate on how many puppies as well if she does it that way. If she is and you wish to know how many, get an ultrasound or a xray done. I wouldnt think she is pregnant though considering you said that you only let her out in the garden when in heat and didnt see any dog with her. It usually needs to have the two dogs lock together for their to be a high chance of the dog being pregnant. But anything is possible I guess. Just take her to the vet and find out for sure. ***I hope this helped.***

First of all, "CHIP", get real, if you knew anything about animal reproduction you would have said something different. If you are a tree hugger then wise up, tree's don't love back.
onto the question, if you have been observant and kept control of your lady dog during her season, you would know if there had been a mating.
However, as many people have said, it could be a phantom pregnancy, which means you should take your dog to the vet as they will give medication for the dog and give you information about it.
The nipples will start to leak milk and that can be risky for the lady dog (mastitis, cancer, etc), so get her sorted and if you are not going to breed from her, get her spayed. It will cause you less hassle, and give her better health later in life.

This could be a phantom pregnancy, my friends dog kept having those and in the end breed her just to stop her having phantoms. She later had her spayed. Take her to your vets to ask his opinion. Hope she gets better soon.

Remember a dog is pregnant for 64 days, so you should be able to work out when the puppies (if she is pregnant) are due. Look out for her putting on weight (my dog didnt start showing properly that she was pregnant until her last few weeks) and you will probably find that she will eat things that she wouldnt normally. If she is pregnant I hope all goes well and she has a healthy litter!

it is possible that she is pregnant, the nipples are the first thing you notice you will notice change in the size of her bellie in a week or two, my saint didnt look pregnant until she was about 8 weeks preg, larger dogs hide it better. put her onto a puppy food just incase, she will need the extra vitamins n minerals,

if you are sure she never got mated then it is a phantom pregnancy.....she will get over it she may have all the other symptoms as well if its only mild leave well enough alone but if she developes other symptoms i think you should take her to the vet as she could be cooking a pyometra

Probably...try touching her tummy. Is she very shy and lacking in confidence now? Does she lay down and hide?
My dog has had 2 phantom pregnancies. If you are unsure then go to vets.
