I agree - why is there so much traffic? Do kids not walk or get the bus anymore? And why does every parent have to have one of those stupid 4x4 cars when all they do is drive 2 minutes down the road and back?

Come on kids - on your bike!

I'm in the U.K and when I was at school we had free school busses, now the school charge more than £200 per child per year to use a bus. There's the main reason with out a doubt. Also safety - the volume of traffic has increased hugely since I was at infant school when a group of about 6 or 7 us walked to school unaccompanied by an adult. Also paranoia about paedophiles is high. Forming walking groups to school with an adult at each end of a group of kids has been tried, but people today are insular, selfish and untrusting, and just not as sociable and community minded as they used to be.
Also many parents are bullied or subjected to emotional blackmail by their lazy older kids. That's life.

A woman after my own heart. Maybe I'm just a miserable old git but all the uneccessary traffic really annoys me. What's wrong with kids these days - spoilt and pathetic I reckon. People say that the roads are too dangerous for the kids to walk to school - only cos they're filled with the bratmobiles every morning. Ban kids being driven to school and you could probably exceed our CO2 emissions reduction targets straight away.
Oh another thing boys should be made to wear shorts and caps and girls kilts and straw hats as school uniform till they're 16.

Because parents are way to protective and love helping to warm the planet up!!!!
If parnets sent them on the bus or made them walk, you could half rush hour traffic!
Its like heaven at the moment with the kids on Holiday its like a ghost town driving to work! Brilliant!!!
Parents are always blah blah blah to dangerous, to this, to that, there where dangers when they went to school its just the press is so much more influential these days and they cant bare to be different.
Parents that drive kids to school should have higher road tax!
im getting of my soap box now!

Children are much to lazy to walk to school. The nearest primary school to where I live is less than a mile away, but the kids get a Mini-bus that goes right to their door.

It never ceases to amaze me.. Im class of 03.. I knew a couple kids who drove to school everyday, and they only lived like 2 blocks away. Maybe Im just being bitter? I didnt start driving until college... But nevertheless, its ridiculous these kids are too lazy to friggen walk anywhere.

usually kids don't live more than 5 miles close to their school soby the time they got to schoool they would be tired again and their brains wouldnt be as aware. plus the crime rate has gone way up over the last 10 years so parents don't feel as safe as before letting their kids go out by themselves.

i would say that in this era, it is much safer for parents to take their children to school no matter how close, there are too many dangerous people out there wanting to cause harm to a random families life by hurting ot taking their child. therefore, i think all parents would agree that rather than put your child at risk by allowing them to go to school alone, they would rather make the effort to accompany them to ensure safety.
