It seems ironic to me - Christians are not flying planes into buildings, rioting and killing over cartoons, and treating women like chattel.

Yet so many here seem preoccupied with denigrating Christians generally.

Many conservative Christians are using the political process in the US to make changes to abortion law, and prevent same-sex marriage, but we can debate that civilly, and we are. There have been a small number of violent acts, which have been condemned. I don't ermember riots and killings when an artist displayed a crucifix in a jar of urine.

Seems to me like radical Islam - not all Islam - is a much bigger threat.

Just some food for thought. Flame away!

Have a nice day.

Just wanted to add something - the segregationists who opposed Martin Luther King accused him of "trying to impose his morals on everyone."

Wow! Many of you are only proving my point!!!

I also was very clear to indicate that it was not ALL Muslims who were causing a problem. You folks are raising red herrings.

But I will repeat my point - if the topic is religion, AND you want to try to judge all religions by a fair standard, I would think that the most urgent issue today (not centuries ago) are those who are expressly and specifically justifying violence around the world based on their reading of their religion.

But I did ask the question sincerely, and so I shouldn't be overly argumentative about the answers. Thanks for ALL responses. Maybe I will gain a perspective I did not have before!

it seems more like a case of "why not?" - the worst repercussion that can befall an abuser on here is banning, which just means that they have to get a new account before they can start slandering again.

also, it's quite detached - many of the slanderers on here wouldn't tease or belittle a christian on the street, but here they have no face-to-face contact so they feel can say anything they like

finally, it seems to be fuelled by a "tradition" of sorts - the "religion & spirituality" has more questions talking negatively about religions (in particular islam and christianity) or asking why adherents of a particular faith are "so stupid". this in turn encourages new users who might be predisposed to negative or hurtful comments in general to direct their efforts towards religion. and since there is often a lot of flaming about, and negative connotations with, the abuse of islam and muslim people, the comments end up directed at christianity and christians

at least, that's how i see it :)

The fact that they are trying to change laws to take away a persons rights, such as the right to abortion or same sex marriage is unacceptable to many people.

I have a lot of respect for people who believe this and if they choose not to abort etc, fine. But leave alone those people who do want to do it.

We have different beliefs, not wrong beliefs, just like you.

I do agree though that fundamentalist Islamics are probably worse.......

PS - guessisking : Do you accept, paedophiles, murderers, rapists etc? There are some people who are beyond help.

There is no hostility to christians here, it is only hostility to intolerant people like the conservative and fanatic christians in the USA. They have ideas like, neglecting Darvin and want to make people pretend the world is flat...;-)

Christianity is not causing problems now, becaus western countries and comunist countries used to seperate religion from government. This is currently changing a bit!
A mixture of government and religion is always causing huge problems to the normal people and to people believing differently...(see Iran, Ireland, Israel Afganistan etc these days)

Some centuries ago we had the 30years war in Europe, the genozide in Southamerica and Spain and the genozide in Germany..
In the future we will have problems in Poland, USA and Russia due to religion and church mixing up in politics...

The hostility here to so called christians is, because we fear to live in comunities ruled by intolerance!!

Therefore we have to fight these intolerant people too keep the freedom we have.

!!!!! The freedom you have, is the freedom of the poeple with other thoughts and ideas as your own!!!!

The "hostility" to christians is confined to resistance to their mad insistence that their's is the only morality, and insistence on a mad theory of how this diverse and wonderful biological world came into existence.

The very question demonstrates the arrogance and intolerance that makes so many christians contemptible in the eyes of rational folk.

well christians arent exactly violent people. what theyre trying to do is change the entire education and social system to fit their needs. theyu think that simply because they beleive in fairy tales they should be allowed to tell prople how to live their lives.

teuth be told that if christians were allwoed to run free they would go around telling pewople what to do (called morality police) and putting those they dislike in jail.

while i agree with you that theyre not blowing up things or flying planes into buildings, they are attempting to make america a pro-christian natio nand an anit-everyone else nation.

their first step? make everyon learn what they consider education and dump out anything they dont like or anything that makes them look stupid. science and evolution.

christians arent being discriminated against, the peopel are simply getting tired of them and how they mess things up. no one is going to corrale them and start killing them, most people just want them to shut up and keep their opinions to themselves.

Agreed. A lot of bad things have been done in the name of God, by some less than Godly people. This goes for both Islam and Christianity.

Make no mistake, give "Christians" power and they will abuse it just as surely as the Mullahs in Iran do.
Christians bomb abortion clinics and harass Gays and whoever else lives their lives in a way that "Christians" find offensive. "Christians" can't live and let live, so they should just put their big girl panties on and take a little criticism once in a while. They certainly have no problem bashing other faiths/belief systems ( as evidenced by your question/diatribe)

That's why there is all of the hostility to Christians. Because you feel the need to make your religion seem better by insulting other religions. It's completely ignorant and unnecessary.
