I have bred parakeets myself. It is all up to you to choose because I have seen great and breeds of parakeets. First of all I suggest that you go to google.com and type Parakeet Breeds, then click search. It will show you some websites which help you with breeding parakeets. Now preparing the cage. I suggest that you purchase a Nesting box and attach it to your cage. Petsmart or Petco has a great variety of Nesting Boxes. They usually cost about 8 to 12 dolars( which is a real bargain)!!!!!!!! These nesting boxes have a door that you can slide open to see your nesting parakeet. After attaching the nesting box, try to introduce it to your parakeets. Now, I suggest that you place the cage in a quiet room to prevent any distractions for your birds. Any loud noises will certainly affect how your parakeets breed. So, try not to disrupt them. After a couple of weeks, you may notice that your parakeet maybe spending most of its time in the nesting box. The male should be outside of the box feeding the female. After about 28 to 30 days the female should have laid an egg. Try not to distrub her. Every other day she will lay anothe egg. A female parakeet can lay an average of 6 to 8 eggs. I hope my advice helped!!!!!! Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!

I use to raise cocketiels. First purchase a male and yes some can tell you if it is a male or not but I would go to a parakeet breeder and you can find them in the paper. I would not trust pet stores unless they actual raise the birds themself. Then if you have an extra cage set them side by side and let the birds get use to each other for a few days. Two or three. If no extra cage just put them together and watch carefully. Usually they will take to each other right away. I have heard that to breed you need to have another bird in the same room with them. That may help but I do not think it is a must. You need to get a breeding box that they can lay their eggs in and care for the babys. A breeder can show you what this is and how to set it up. They let nature take its course. I also hand fed mine and it was great how they would come to you and stay with you after that. Good luck.

The very first thing you need to do, if you wish to be a responsible bird breeder, is to learn more about your birds. A great web site to find information and talk to other bird people is www.birdboard.com.

You need to pay very special attention to their diet. Breeding puts quite a strain on them and they need to be in good health. You should have a decent size cage, and a breeding box is a must.

As far as purchasing a male, most pet shops will have young parakeets for sale, and it may be difficult to be 100% certain about the sex of the bird. Go online and look for other breeders in your area, or just keep trying the local pet shops if you prefer. Make sure the person that sells it to you is really knows what they are talking about so you don't attempt to set up 2 females for breeding!

first you should learn how to tell which one is a male from the female that is step 1. step 2 you should know that albino is a recessive gene not a dominate one so your baby parakeet could be blue, green or yellow and step 3 you should not put them in the same cage b/c you put stress on the new bird he or she might feel like a punk in the old birds a.o.

Just put them in a cage and cover it with a cloth and let them do their things.
