That sounds weird, but listen. I know there are women who practice Christianity--that's not what I mean, I already know that. But you know, God is male, Jesus is male, most every character is male expect for like Mary and Eve and very few others. Now, I don't want a list of female Bible characters, PLEASE, but why so masculine? Why not a goddess as well? Wiccans, don't tell me about your religion because that's what I practice myself but seriously... God, Jesus, Joseph, Moses, everybody is almost always a guy! And most of you are anti-choice. I'm not saying Christians are sexist, just tell me why. And I'd like to hear alot of the answers from Christians themselves, no sect is particular.

Bill K, you're right, I agree. And Barbara, how could God make Jesus with Mary if he were female? If God wasn't male the religion wouldn't work right and they wouldn't call him The "Lord".

Look... there are many VERY important characters in the story of salvation that are female. You've already named Mary, but you blew her off as just another character; I don't think you realize the magnitude of her importance: she was a very devout person... good enough to be the mother of GOD. There's no other saint that was allowed such an important role.
But in general, it's not masculine. When GOD created Eve from Adam, he took a rib from the first man: the rib is in the middle of the human, not on the bottom to demonstrate subordinance, and not on the top to demonstrate superiority. Man and Woman were created to be equal.
So, if it happens to be that most [not all] of the prophets were men, so what? Are you gonna complain that the Constitution was written by all men, too? There's nothing against women, so don't give yourself that illusion.
****EDIT: Why do the people ignorant of the Bible answer this question? People say things like, "I don't know if this or that, but the Bible is a product of its time anyways."
If you don't know, don't answer... you are spewing out information that is either out of context or false.

Okay here is the deal: Christianity has a lot of male influence because men were made to carry the wieght of God's glory. Women were made to carry God's heart and beauty. Do you realize that woman are the most beautiful thing God created? We are actually the crown of creation. Without us, creation would be incomplete. However, men were built more to carry the blunt of everything. In a perfect world, men would be the ones responsible for work and blame. Adam was created first to attend to God's creation. Eve was created to help Adam, but also to be a companion. She was never meant to carry the blunt of everything God throws at us. Men are just physically stronger, it is a fact. They were meant to be the wieght bearers. That is why God sent a man to save us. It would have been too much for a woman. I am not trying to be sexist or even mean. I am just realistic to the way God created me. It is how He orginally intended.

Well, the Bible was created for political reasons - for everyone be one, organized religion. People are much easier to control that way.
Well, before Christianity, Paganism was the majority "religion". And because there was equal amounts of feminine and masculine, the logical thing to do was make every major character in the Bible, male.

If you study the Bible you will see that Women are treated like second class citizens throughout. My belief is that the Bible is simply a product of it's time that was written by sexist men.
Look in the old testament (especially divorce laws) law to see the poor treatment of women. Paul would go on to say that a woman should be silent in the chruch.
In short the reason is: The Bible is simply a product of it's time

It's a product of the time the bible was written. In order to enforce and guide a patriarchal society, all of the figureheads had to be written as male. Goddesses were a pagan concept, and couldn't be used by them since they were trying to tell people paganism was wrong.

Interesting that Christians insist their religion and the bible are true and then try and interpret it to allow women & homosexual priests!
Whilst sexual liberation and freedoms are rightly the way for the free world to go it is not rquired of religion to follow. The Catholic church sticks fairly rigorously to its tenets.
It just goes to prove that religion is the prop of the weak and those too weak to abide by strict teachings water them down for their own convenience.
Keep emptying the churches people!!! When they are finally empty peace will have a chance!!

The bible is outdated - it was written in a time when women were considered property. Men held many wives.
They were not treated as equals at all. They were not even allowed to pray with their husbands.
that is why all the important figures in the bible are men.
I bet there were plenty of women who were VERY important, but never got mentioned.
It is a shame.

Because the Bible was written by man, I'm not sure if the book Ruth in the Bible was written by Ruth or not, but for the most part it was written by man.
