I wanna know if we need to keep our mouths shut when for all irrational things/ allegations just because it will worsen the situation. Is it possible to create a thumb rule for reacting to anything that concerns us.

Arguments are fine, as long as all parties concerned are interested in coming to a rational conclusion, and not just "being right". If you get to a point in an argument where you suspect that it'll escalate the situation way more than you want it to, the best thing to do is get out of it. Just walking away won't help- it might even make an angry person angrier, since they may now feel that you're ignoring them. If they're already being irrational, this is likely. I find it's often a good idea to give it a break. I'll just point out that we're not getting anywhere, and maybe we should discuss this later. If they yell at you for that, THEN it's time to just walk away.

I think that staying calm always is the best thing to do. It makes the person look stupid by having to blow up instead of expressing their feelings in a calm manner. Also when someone comes to you arguing its best to stay calm then too, let them vent, then voice your opinion.

Although that's really hard sometimes people will respect you more if you stay calm instead of being a hot head.

I shut my effing mouth and walk away. That's what I do when I know I'm going to get all extreme and overeact.

Usually. :) I can only take so much before I have to say something.

When you feel that the argument is just pointless and being very irrational or illogical, it is best to just walk away.

Give em the old Stone Cold Stunner, flip the bird, and walk away.

It always helps me end an argument.

first of all keep your voice monotone while constantly reminding the other person that you understand how they feel. Use I statements like I feel or I think that way you are not attacking the other person. 99% of all arguments are just miscommunication.

If you think you are going to go over the top it is usually better to walk away, count to ten..do something to calm down before responding.

I just bite my tongue, usually, and let the other person have the last word. Sometimes when I am especially snarky, I'll say something, but I tend to regret it.
