There is a natural supplement in nutrition stores and in vitamin and supplement aisles of dept. stores such as walmart called 5-HTP, a derivative of tryptophan, which is present in small amounts in foods such as turkey, milk, and cheese. This is the chemical precursor for your brain to synthesize serotonin, helping to alleviate depression. Unlike pharmaceutical drugs that artificially alter the activity of serotonin, this supplement is simply the building blocks for your brain to safely make more. The side effects of this supplement include a decreased appetite, helping to lose weight, and it can make you slightly drowsy if you are inactive, which is another benefit for those with sleeping difficulties, helping to get a more restful sleep. The chemical action of the increased serotonin also helps alleviate migraine headaches.

There are two issues:
1. Depression
2. Weight Loss
It's important that you seperate the two. Consider that depression may actually be contributing to your desire to lose weight. It is of utmost importance that you prioritize seeking help for depression over your diet concerns. As you work toward increased positivity you will be better able to address the urgency/importance of tending to a potential weight problem.
