It's a sign of respect, humility, and submission. But you can pray anywhere and anytime you want.
Serious prayer will usually be on your knees though. I do know folks who have prayed on their knees for so many years they can't kneel any more. Arthritis. So you can sit if you like. God doesn't care. Either way, there's no place to pray like the altar.
And yes, even Jesus knelt to pray. That is what you meant, right?

You know what, I think all the things that happened in the bible era, happened for a reason and the way we were brought up, to believe that what is in the bible is the honest truth and we must just live our lives according to it (guideline), as spiritual beings because we are spiritual beings enjoying the physical and that's why when we die the flesh doesn't really matter but only if the spirit is with god (being Saved / born again), so please don't question the bible, okay... enjoy your day...
