Judeo-Christian tradition has taught for thousands of years:
1. Single people should be celibate.
2. Married people should be faithful to each other.
The Catholic Church recognizes the power of sex when it teaches, "Sexuality affects all aspects of the human person in the unity of his body and soul."
Chastity means the successful integration of sexuality within the person. A chaste person's body and spirit lives in unity and opposes any behavior that would impair that unity.
+ Pornography +
Catholics believe that pornography offends against chastity because it perverts the intimate giving of spouses to each other.
It does grave injury to the human dignity of all participants (actors, vendors, the public), since each one becomes an object of base pleasure and illicit profit for others.
+ Masturbation +
Masturbation also offends chastity and is contrary to the human dignity of the person and anyone about whom the person has lustful thoughts, and the dignity of human sexuality.
With love in Christ.

First lets look at what the definition of a sin is. Whatever you know is right and don't do it, that is sin or, whatever you know is wrong and do it, that is also sin. Sin is the closest English word to express the idea of sin. It means to miss the mark in archery. The target in faith is perfection and guess what, nobody is perfect except God.
As Christians, we are no longer under the Old Testament Law, however not everything is profitable for us. The Bible was given to us for our benefit, not as a tool to beat us over the head for how bad we are.
Porn is bad for us because of the damage incurred to the ideal design God has for us as sexual beings. The ideal is for sexual expression is in a committed monogamous relationship with the oppositee gender. When we view porn we are establishing behavior patterns and expectations of our mates that they may have no desire for. The act of masturbation probably won't do any harm except for what goes on in our minds. Since sex is 90% in the brain, we fantasize, we establish our own personal form of porn.
To compare ourselves to animals, (if animals do it then it must be natural and therefore alright) is exactly opposit of what we were designed for. We are not meant to follow the behavior of animals because naturally we have a tendency to self destruct and destroy one another.

Porn is a sin because it is allowing in lustful thoughts. Garbage in Garbage out. Porn only leads to lust and lust is a sin of the heart. As far a Masterbation I think its more about uncleanliness. In the book of Leviticus it talks of unclean people. Besides Porn sends the message that women are an object instead of humans leading people to have less compassion and consideration for them. It also disallows people to respect woman as human beings because they are objectified. Which is a thing men have a bad time treating people who are different than u weather it be race sex or any other issue. Men have always had this way of dehumanizing others.

I don't know if either is a sin, but I think it can negatively effect healthy relationships. I know men who can't get excited from real women, because they are use to the air brushed version. And men who can only orgasm with their own hand.
I've also heard of women who can't have an orgasm without hand manipulation.
As far as it being a sin, first you need to define sin. What religion are you looking at?
I think more in terms of "Is this the highest path. Is this what is best for my welfare and the welfare of those I love."

I think porn is wrong because of the effects it has on your mind. Mast. I dont believe to be a sin. I once councelled with a pastor and he told me there was nothing in the Bible about masturbation. He did say that what you think about when you do it could lead to sin. Depends on what you think about.

Some scenes involving nudity & sex are done in a fashion that debases women & men as well. THAT is the " sin ", not the nudity, the human body is BEAUTIFUL, the sex act is beautiful. Depicting the human form as another animal or object is reducing the human God - given form to a piece of meat, & the sex act to a mechanical, heartless, soulless function like passing gas or urination / defecation.

If a man thinketh in his heart, so is he. The Bible hold moral sex to be a blessed act between married man and woman. I am a pastors wife and this issue is brought up a lot because I had a foster child who was sexually addicted and had a serious masterbation problem. Beside wouldnt you rathe enjoy that with your spouse? It is a sin.

Porn can hurt you (addiction) and those who are involved in the making ...so yes it is a sin. Masturbation on the other hand (unless you are using porn while doing it) isn't really a sin to my mind. It can desensitize your skin if done too hard though, and cause it to be harder to reach orgasm.

Sin is what commonly known to us as the doings against what our religious teachings; I believe that God rewards us, human kind, with the knowledge of the universe to become the supreme mortal being in that we have our own weakness and strengths. One of the weakspot is our basic instinct. This BI produces variants in real life, such as porn or sexual activities. Uncontrolled, these 2 would only lead to destructive results (when ur addicted to porn, u cannot enjoy ur sex life with ur own spouse cos ur imagining ur partner to be "britney" or "christina" or somebody else, or when ur masturbating, ur releasing ur own energy to a vacuum sphere where ur emotion meet up emptiness). So, real sin or man-viewed sin, sin is when you are doing things that eventually lead u to a "vacuum sphere" of groundless emotions. Wake up, live healthily, and enjoy good ol sex with your partner without troubling urself with images of others' bodies and voices of unknown, bro!

pornography maybe but not masturbation - but watching and actually participating in porn might be different? I don't know.
The self righteousness about it is all very man-viewed. Also probably viewed so by sexually frustrated pompous asses.
