Your tongue is made up of different sections....sweet, sour, salty, spicy. When whichever food you are eating hits that spot it sends a signal to your brain in regards to what you are tasting then back to your mouth to either keeps eating it or spit it back out.

Sweetnsassy is a smart cookie and has the best answer but, according to that red jalapeno I accidentally ate on my nacho yesterday....I tasted it through my watering eyes! LOL

Well we all put them into our mouths for taste, but smelling is the best for aroma.
