Hi8 tape records only analog format videos; has a wider 'tape' but can hold longer video recording than a miniDV. For a miniDV, it is digital in format; can only record 90minutes of video but clearer than a hi8 (even in LongPlay mode); it is a very small tape that's why its camcorders fits in your palm.
clear? clear!!

hi8 is an older format and therefore what they call Analog as opposed to the newer digital formats such as miniDV. It is easier to get miniDV formats into a computer for editing and final tweaking compared to the older formats. Most people think the quality of the miniDV is much better than hi8, but in reality - the hi8 has a better color rendition than its digital counterpart, none-the-less miniDV is a good format to do every day shooting. There are other advantages but not enough room in this forum to tell you.

Hi8 is a anolog however good if u you can shoot in good lighting but u can make better vcd or svcd. Where miniDv is half of the size of Hi8 cassettes but it records the digital video which you can convert in to DVD which are much sharper and clear videos its not that from hi8 also can make dvd but the pixel resulion is bit different. By spending a little more you can have a miniDV. I wish to say that instead of Hi8 or MiniDV better to have DVD cam from sony which i saw there is not much differencein price but straight away you can record to mini dvd that dvd can play right on ur DVD player no convertion is required .Further they are DVDrw. so no hassels for running around for convertions.

MiniDV's signal is encoded right into a digital representation of the fabrics, it really is recorded onto the tape (in something very very like a chain of one million's and 0's). diverse copies ought to correctly be made from this proper code without distinction in high quality. To transmit the signal to a pc, the technique calls for no longer something better than a unmarried FireWire cable (and a jack for it on a the pc). besides, MiniDV also employs using "timecode," it really is used in a lot of recording codecs (analog and digital) to grant each and each and each person an "address" to make modifying really uncomplicated. different digital tape codecs do exist, consisting of DVCPro. Hi8, as an analog format, works somewhat in a special way. it is not any longer recorded as a code of one million's and 0's on the tape; it is recorded an identical way alerts have continually been recorded onto different tape codecs, consisting of VHS. demanding to describe precisely how that works, yet suffice it to assert it is not any longer a digital representation of the signal. each and each and every reproduction of the recorded textile will be of lesser high quality than the unique, and this may properly be considered as early as perchance the first or second reproduction. To transmit it to a pc, one needs a converter gadget to make it a digital signal previously it ought to correctly be processed. Hi8 also does no longer use timecode. back, timecode/no timecode isn't unavoidably drawn for the time of analog/digital strains, yet it really is one distinction between those 2 particular codecs. The analog format Betacam SP, as an social gathering, is a timecoded analog format.

hi8 uses a tape cartridge like the old cassettes and records the video in analog...the same as ordinary video.
mini dv records a digital signal...better quality and smaller size.
