hahaha...people and their ignorance are funny. Dreads are fun and clean and can be very attractive. they have been worn at some time in history by almost every known culture and dont take too much maintenance. I have had dreadlocks for over 10 years now and they are very clean, healthy and attractive. I am caucasian and i work in the professional field and own my own art business. They have never been an inconvenience for me and I always recieve postive responses about them. As a matter of fact, I often model my hair and the only people who have ever said anything negative were icky trashy people or african americans who thought i was stealing "their" culture even tho they were NOT jamaican or rasta and despite the fact that dreads have been used by every european culture at some time in history and rasta is a very recent religion. Its interesting how people with no education or class will give advice on things they know nothing about. Anyhow, I say go for it- keep them clean and ignore the negative drama. you will rock them!

Sure why not? You have to take great care while growing them out though. I'm going to guess you want locks, not mats? Keep an eye out for large tangled masses that could become mats. Also, they can hurt (weight pulling on your scalp) and be rather itchy. Then there's the odour. While growing them, shampoo can undo them. But once you grow them out, shampooing your hair is fine. All this is second hand knowledge from a friend that had dreadlocks for awhile, then shaved them off when he grew weary of them.

Whatever you do stay away from pahump.... a true idiot, and it may just rub off.... I say go for it if that's your style but do research and know the history. Those people that wore that style had a reason and it was symbolic for them. Don't be an idiot and coward like pahump just read up on it. Whatever you decide, just do it for you and not what other people think. They are quite ignorant as you see. I know people who wore them and they were very clean, they actually take more maintenance than a lot of styles you see today, if they are actually keeping them up as they should. But if you live in the back hills like pahump then it's only a hillbillies opinion......... LOL Goodluck because with your texture of hair, starting them will be your challenge...........

I think dreadlocks on anyone looks disgusting. It promotes filthiness, and becomes a breeding ground for fleas. When I see someone with dreadlocks, I think they are a. homeless and can't shower, b. drugusers and don't care to shower, c. mentally ill, and don't know they should shower.

I know an awesome guy who was white and had dreads, but you have to have the personality for them. He was very outgoing and just a great guy, I did them for him, you could make fake dreads for a day, just to see if you like them. But if you do go with dreads... just rat the hair with a comb, dont put wax in them, then they get really nasty.
