I am going on a plane to New Mexico and it will be a short flight but i have never taken a plan before what do i need to know. My biggest fear is getting lost and dealing with the security.

Usually people at airports are quite helpful since they know you're most likely visiting. When you check in your luggage, make sure you have locks on the zippers so ppl cant get into your things. To save space, stuff socks and undies inside shoes. If your baggage is black, make sure you put soething that will make it stand out from other luggage, like ribbon or a tag. HAVE FUN!!

Make a list of what items you feel will be needed to pack and use that list to pack your bags. DO NOT use the cute little padlock, still sold on newly purchased luggage sets (airport security WILL bolt cut them off).

DO NOT PACK any guns, known illegal drugs, knives or devices that can cause sparks or flame!!

Now we've settled the "I know there's something I forgot to pack" fear.....let's move on.

To be safe, arrive to airport about 3 hours BEFORE flight time. Look for the curbside "sky hop" desk of the airline you're flying with and hand them your ticket and a photo ID card. You can ask the Skyhop person where your gate is past the security check point, they'll be happy to help. And they'll handle your large luggage, too ( be assurred: it'll get well scanned by unseen security) And most ALL airports have easy to follow sign directions to help you along.

With a small bit or better yet--no carry on luggage, you make your way to the security checkpoint. Be ready to remove any jewelry or metal that can set the metal detectors off. Those and your purse or wallet can be put into a small basket, which gets run through a x-ray type machine as you walk through the metal detector. If you have any metal surgically placed bone joints, might be good to tip security on this. Be prepared to be "wand transfrisked", so security can confirm why you set off their large metal detector.

Patience with security is vital; they have a huge responsible job to do--and it's clearly for the safety of you and other passengers. Airport security officers are trained and they do try to make this as comfy as possible.

You've passed the security checkpoint! You're doing fine. Be sure to ask the officer directions to your airport gate. Proceed along, be observant where your exact gate is and don't be afraid to ask airline personnel if you are at the exact gate.

Ah, the fun part: waiting for the flight. Well....you're on your own there. But do have a safe and fun visit to New Mexico.
