True Muslims do not drink beer and eat pork. Why? Beer and other alcoholic beverages are intoxicating fluids that can lull and numb the brain. While in this state of blissful oblivion, one may and can forget one's obligations. As in the case of Muslims, they are required to pray 5 times a day, and this they cannot do if they get tipsy!
Pork is prohibited because the meat is considered unhygienic as certain parasites still survive even after cooking at high temperatures. As Mark up there has correctly commented, some 'Muslims' do drink beer and eat pork, but it must be noted that these people are NOT true Muslims. You find deviant followers in all the religions.
I am very fond of Malaysia and her people and wish to correct the information provided by Mark. There are no religious vigilante groups raiding pubs and other entertainment outlets. What normally happens is you get some officials from the religious department going to these places to catch Muslims doing stuff they are not supposed to do. Certainly no eating dirt or public flogging is involved here! The most 'painful' punishment would be having to fork out a few hundred bucks in fine, and they are set free, with perhaps a stern reminder.

Anything that manipulates the mind like beer is considered evil; funny thing is that the rule doesnt apply to weed, cigars or drugs.
Pork is considered a 'dirty spiritual' animal. eating it will cause manipulation of body and mind towards the devil...
If you every lived in Iraq, or Malaysia or indonesia...you'd see muslims drink beer, eat pork and take drugs and go to the mosque the next day...
Good thing is, in these countries there are muslim vigilante groups raiding pubs and restaurants for muslims breaking the law. Worst punishment they'd get is to eat dirt or get public flogging...

Pork is seen as a "dirty" meat in many religions because of its tendency to contain tapeworms or other parsites. Most of my Muslim friends are not even allowed to touch it. I don't know about the beer.

I'm not a Muslim and I don't drink beer nor do I consume pork. Then again, that's because those two things are disgusting.
Give me Pepsi and beef any day!

even i wasn't a Muslim i wouldn't drink getting drunk is not fun to me it makes you feel stupid
i don't like pigs also they are disgusting to me

These are also known as 'excuses'.
The real reason is this: angry people are easy to incite to violence. When many of your religious leaders advocate violence, it's helpful if your shock-troops are angry.

Both are highly disgusting. No alcohol is their requirement and the swine is unclean. Jewish people also do not consume pork. Thank goodness.
