YES at least 8 hours. This is the time your body has to mend itself, the time your mind has to rest. When you get good REM sleep you should actually notice the difference in your skin and how alert you feel. It's been proven that lack of sleep can cause weight gain and other problems. Yes, most of us can go about our daily lives with half that, but our health deteriorates over time. And I'm speaking from experience!

It all depends on your age mostly. The younger you are the more you need.

They say you should get 7-8 hours to "recharge your batteries". That is the only time your body rest and mends itself. Some people can get by on less. I can run on about 5-6 but feel better if I get the 7-8 hours.

Go with what works for you.

The younger kids need the most... and then as we get older the "need" for sleep decreases.... and the after we retire... we get up at 5 am just so we can think of all the places we can go to and raise hell. Because those people working NEED 8 hours of sleep but work so damn much they only get 4-6...... That's my take on the whole thing.

Teens need at least 9 or more hours
Children need 10 or more
Babies needs 15 or more
Adults need between 7-8

I unfortunately get only 4-5 in any given time. Broken sleep is NOT fun!

Your body can tell you how much sleep you need, and it may be less or more than 7 or 8 hours. I personally feeel terrrible if I sleep more than 6 hours a night.

It depends on your age, as you get older you need less sleep. Recent studies suggest less than 7-8 hours leads to increased weight gain.
