I don't know if that's true. But as far as being religious goes, I would liken it to ignorance. Spiritual bankrupcy.
For religion can be anything; Baseketball games every time the home team plays, Birthday parties on everyones birthday, etc.
Religion can also be based upon spiritual things. That can be just as self-serving.
Since when did Jesus say, " Be religious and you'll get to heaven?"
No the directive is more than that. More than rituals based upon tradition. It's about trusting God. An active participation in the relationship between a person and the One God.
So religion comes into a place where even the worship of God is second place. It give people things to do that the savior himself forbade us to do. Like praying in repetition, looking to an idol for the representation of God.
God said that He is in the hearts of those who love Him.
But I also wonder why many think that they know all about "religion" and have never studied it. Which by the way, means that they who criticize the worship of God as being "uneducated," are uneducated about that as well.
Bottom line:
It takes one to know one.

When people don't know the answers, and don't know how to find the answers--or if they never think to ask the questions--they usually join the local religion.
Educated people are usually smarter, on the average, and they can figure out how to find answers better than the average uneducated person.

You need to check your facts. Many scientists are Christian, many professors, teachers, etc are Christian.
C.S. Lewis of Narnia fame (you must have heard of the movie) was considered one of the most brilliant men of his time and he also was thought to be a great Christian. He initially rejected God, and Jesus Christ, as you seem to do, but he researched the subject thoroughly and decided it was true.
J.R.R. Tolkein who wrote Lord of the Rings was a Christian and a personal friend of C.S. Lewis, in fact it was he that helped Lewis find God.
Issac Newton consided the greatest scientist of all time was a dedicated Christian, if fact he wrote more about christianity than he did about science.
I could continue but you catch my drift.
If you are smart check it out so you can make an educated decision.

You just realized this? Look where the bible thumpers are located...the deep south.
Look at Utah, where I live. We spend the least in the nation per kid, and the politicians are proud of that stat, and yes, this is mormon country. I think they must want to keep the locals dumb.
I'm not saying all are uneducated in these parts...don't want to ruffle any feathers, but yes, there is a strong correlation if you care to look at it.

Excellent assumption though unsupported by researched data. I say excellent because, education sharpens the intellect but corrupts the heart. God is not realized through the equipment in a laboratory, but by the qualities of the heart. So, the more educated one is, the difficult it becomes for him to unconditionally accept the omnipresent grace of God.

Maybe it's because where other populations look to money, and material possessions for peace and comfort, the Bible is usually the only and major source of comfort for the underpriviledged. Maybe just maybe, the inner peace they discover helps them to realize that no matter how much money, or material wealth one has; peace of mind and inner contentment is always pricesless.....

I wouldn't necessarily say uneducated, I would say poor places. When you have nothing you tend to look to god for answers. In north america we tend to worship ourselves because we are always striving for the next buck and we are too self involved to care about the infanite. It takes us being knocked off our pedistal to realize that nothing in the world will satisfy our every desires. We need to realize that this life is temporary and nothing that we achieve here matters without God.

yes I have, but you mean under-privelaged people not uneducated. I believe its because they realize their position in life which is most likely not seeming that fortunate. so they turn to religion in hopes of finding a better place in the after life.
