Going to school for massage therapy this fall, and my ideal job would be to work on a cruise, I love to travel and think that this would be a lot of fun. Curious if it'll be hard to find a position on a cruise? Has anyone worked on one before, if so what is it like? Is it generally good pay? Nice sleeping arangements? Do you get to travel, or are you stuck on the boat the entire time? Any info would help me out alot, to help me look forward to going to college! Thanks!

do you think that working at a resort would be better than on a cruise? Why?

I have heard from discussions with cruise ship personnel that they must sign a contract for a specific period of service, like nine months or so and they work 7 days a week. They get a few hours off at certain ports but basically must be on ship all of the time.

Working on a cruise ship is not like going on a cruise. The crew quarters are generally in the bottom of the ship, don't really have portholes, and are typically shared cabins that are very small.

International cruise lines are typically based out of a foreign country with rather lenient labour laws, meaning you don't get minimum wage or working conditions.

Some workers are able to take half days for shore leave, but they are generally back by a certain time. I don't know how it works in the spa - I'd assume you'd get one port afternoon off, depending on the departure time. But, that could be very, very wrong.

You cannot bring guests on board, so forget meeting someone and coming back to the ship for drinks or lovin. Security is not supposed to allow it.

Good luck to you in whatever you decide. : )

stick on the boat the whole time tending the the fat and lazy people who dont want to move get their massages instead of getting some god forbid exercise (because that would require work, and be lethal)
