Yes that can happen, When My ship came back from Desert Storm, we had 13 pairs of Night Vision Googles come up missing. They were valued at over $26,000 , whe had to stay on the ship and Search the Entire ship for over 8 hours, then the Capt released everyone that was not on Duty to go home...So it can happen, and Yes he can do that, Remember the Goverment Owns him until he gets done with his contract....So learn to live with it...It is hard, but you can do it. First off, you're not stupid. The only stupid people are those who don't ask the questions needed to get the information. Now, to answer your question, sadly, yes it can happen. However the situation required for the entire ships company to be restricted to ship has to be extreme. More often than not, only the persons making the mistake are punished, unless it was a situation where others should have caught it, then yes...everyoneis staying. That decision is up to the individual officer in command of that department or division. As a senior officer, I've never punished the masses for the actions of a few unless it was warranted. As for incidents, I'm not sure as to how to advise you on that. It depends entirely on the severity of the incident. However, there may be times when the entire crew is required to stay on board. Again, these reasons very and are up to the ships captain. To answer the question of can the Navy do this..yes we can. Unlike civilian workers, we don't have the right to claim certain rights that civilians do. Doing so will result in UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice) charges being filed resulting in Captains Mast. So Skip gave you false information on that one. The only time military members are allowed to possibly disobey a order is if it poses a hazard of immenant peril such as death or it's a moral objection (i.e. killing of a unarmed civilian or child). I hope this helps you in learning what you need to know.

First of all, don't call yourself stupid. I used to be a Navy spouse. Yes, if a service member screws up on a boat all others might have to stay on the boat until the problem is solved. All the crew is a group and the group must work together as a team.

You are not stupid you need to stop listening to garbage and rumors, go to your husband's sponsor or one of the wives clubs on base for some straight information about this question.
If you are a new wife find out if there is a get acquainted gathering or information about the ship your husband is on. Ask this question of those that are there.
This is the reason rumors, wrong and bad information is started, get the straight information from one of the naval groups where you are located.
Even though you are in the military you still have certain rights and can exercise them if you so desire.
The navy and any other branch have sensitive and extremely necessary security measures.
I hope this has been of some use to you, good luck.

it could happen but one would think it would have to be a serious screw up... a ship captain has to maintain strict honor and discipline on his/her ship.. If not things could be very bad for all when out to sea... Most likely a captain will discipine the individual or the team not the whole ship... when the whole ship is grounded its usually for security or other reasons
