I totally understand the feeling of being so soft hearted and empathizing to so many others problems. I am the same way. I my self got caught up in the trying to save the world thing because of my careingness and it almost messed up my world. Its ok to be caring and empathize but u cant get so caught up in other peoples drama where it takes over you. I think the key word in all u said was "deal with it on my own". yes u have given your life to the Lord as in your soul but what about your LIFE? He wants you to lay ALL your burdens at his feet so HE can take care of it. Not you! Your problem is that your still doing it on your own and hes here so you don't have to. Yes my hear breaks when I see a problem or struggle with some one but I cant fix everything. I can try to help. But I have learned the best thing I can really do is give it totally to God and He will take care of everything. Trust me his way is the perfect way. It may not seem as though things are going for the best, but as time goes on I always see how the Lord has worked everything out for the glory. and he has never stopped amazing me.

Being soft hearted is good but it seems that you have take things in the negative way.
When we see pain,misery and sorrow our heart goes to those people but doe we really do something to alleviate their situation, most of the cases we shy away from doing anything.
Just for a change , try helping out somebody in distress , try to bring some smiles in the lives of those living a life of deprivation,..I am not asking you essentially to spend your money but the point is try spending a sunday in an orphanage .
You will surely notice the difference within yourself, the joy & satisfaction you will get when you see yourself making a difference in other peopls's lives can't be defined in words.
And I am sure this feeling of joy is far more efficient in wiping out pain than any amount of pills or booze.

Because the universe can be cold, hard, cruel place... and some of the poeple that occupy it take pleasure in inflicting pain on others, especially the soft-hearted ones.
But that is one of the big things that faith and fellowship are supposed to alleviate.
And speaking of fellowship... why are you dealing with the pain on your own? Aren't you part of a church where you have friends & family to help and support you? I'm not a believer anymore myself, but I am not trying to mock you; I am genuinely concerned... is there no living person you can turn to for comfort and support?
Edit: NP, pumpkin... hope you are doing better today!

Without the crutch you are becoming more than human . all the pent up feelings you tryed to drown are coming to the surface. learn to listen to your soul it will lead you as it is a part of the creator and jesus. but the path will be painful for most.
also try and put a little distance between the situation and your self so you can look at it more objectively.that will help take some of the sting out.
Also remember that life is not a smooth straight road. full of bumps and ruts,twists and turns.that can distract you from your goal.

There are people who are empaths. They take on everyone else's bad feelings, it's hard for them to not do it. It sounds like you are one. You need to recognize these and tell yourself that you will no longer take on everyone else's pain. You need to let go of all the pain that is in you now and not take on anyone else's. If you would like help dealing with this, I would strongly suggest going to an alternative healer. Someone that does energy work like Healing Touch. They will help move the negative energy you have built up inside you and give you tools to help keep from taking on more. I know it's hard... I'm one too. Connect with your soul and then connect with God. Remember let out all negative emotions, thoughts, feelings and past events. Forgive others and especially yourself. Peace be with you.

this world is hard. The next one will be spectacular for us Christians. You hurt because you care deeply. That is a great trait. Use your empathy by praying for those who need it, and find other ways to use it. Go to the Nursing Home and adopt a Grandma, bring new neighbors a cookie basket, collect teddy bears for foster children. See what I mean?

Soft-hearted people like us just wanna save the world but we can't.It's not our job really.It's God's.I deal with an anger over the injustices in life too,but I try to channel that anger into a verb and do something good with it.

the Lord is in your heart and he feels this pain with you. sometimes you need to take a break from caring about others and do for yourself color.draw, play with clay grow a garden or whtaever you can do for relaxing fun don't use your heart up all at once.

I'm sorry to hear about your pain. Perhaps it has to do with what God put prophets like Jeremiah and Hosea through. He wanted them to experience the grief that He feels when people won't come to Him to be healed and saved so that they could be genuine witnesses for Him here on earth.
1.What a friend we have in Jesus,
all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
all because we do not carry
everything to God in prayer.
2.Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged;
take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful
who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
take it to the Lord in prayer.
3.Are we weak and heavy laden,
cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge;
take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In his arms he'll take and shield thee;
thou wilt find a solace there.
