First of all, I'm a guy. And this is my first time having long-ish hair. So here's my problem:

Try putting a small dab of an extra hold gel into your hair & then blowdrying it(I know guys don't like to use blowdryers). To dry it be sure you go in the direction of the cuticle otherwise you'll just make the problem worse...that means hold the nozzle downward, & as you dry keep your brush(a plastic vented brush would be best for you) moving down the hair shaft as well. This should help.

Try hairspray.
