Well I really feel your pain! The same thing happened to me a few years back..............After novacaine wore off, I was in worse pain.couldn't figure it out................Went back to dentist who took
more x-rays....Found nothing.........Yet I was still crying in pain.
He decided to send me to a specialist who extracted teeth only.
The new dentist took an additional x-ray(2 to be exact) and I couldn't believe what they showed.........My original dentist drilled too deep into my tooth and drilled into the bone!!!!!!!!!!At this point the new dentist told me he had to take out the tooth! He gave me pain pills for 1 day, then I was fine! My old dentist couldn't believe he missed it on the x-ray. But new dentist took x-ray at an angle..............

Well first of all, how long were you in pain before having the root canal? And how much decay was in the tooth? What happened was he probably didn't drill to the apex (bottom of the root were the infection was) so he basically left it there and then put a temp fill in, and when closing up the hole gasses build up, which can cause you to be in more agony then when you went in there with. That's why I ask how badly broken down the tooth was before you started it because if there was too much decay or if the tooth was broken then chances are the infection was coming out of the tooth and not causing you alot of pain same holds true if there was a fistula (looks like a small pimple on the gum above the tooth) the infection would be coming out of there as well. If that's the case when he closed it up, the infection would have nowhere to go causing the pain. I'm not sure if your doc is open tomorrow (alot are not open on Fridays) but i would demand an appointment or a stronger script like vicoden ES(extra strength) also taking like 4-5 Advil will help its an anti-inflammatory. hope this helps

Ok--It's VERY normal to have discomfort after a root canal. It should last 24-48 hours after it's completed and should start to feel better and better. Keep up on the pain meds. they gave you and you should be able to take Ibuprofen along with it. Call your dental office with any questions.

Sometimes they hurt like hell for a day or so afterwards especially if you were having bad toothache before treatment.
Try some strong painkillers for the next few hours and it should ease over the next 24 hours.

'Sorry you're in pain - I've always felt really good after root canal. Didn't they give you something for pain? Usually they'll give you a day's worth of vicodin or something.
