You won't find the answer to these question from God. But from the standpoint of evolutionary theory, it makes perfect sense.

The truth? God doesn't choose our genes.
We always get our DNA from our parents; that's why we usually look a little like them. The DNA comes from the gametes that a person's body creates; sperm from the man has half the DNA, and the egg from the woman has half the DNA. When they united, the DNA combines into the whole, thus resulting in a fertilized egg.
Our DNA often changes on its own. DNA changes all the time, actually - it's just that, in most cells, it gets repaired (so you don't get cancer all over the place). But every so often, a mutation slips into one of the gametes (that is, the sperm or egg).
So, when you have a mutated gamete, that results in a person who has a gene that didn't exist before, or a gene that doesn't quite work correctly. Depending on which gene gets mutated and how that gene gets expressed in the person (basically, whether or not it gets turned on), they may have some sort of disease. Or a really different hair color. Or a 3rd arm. Or maybe nothing happens; the mutated gene might not get turned on, or it might not make any really noticeable difference.

Gee, this is an interesting question, with a hint of "is God really so mean?" about it; and I am far from qualified to answer from an intellectual standpoint; however here are a few of my thoughts:
God gives us free will, and so we choose a spouse with whatever genes he or she already has; so in that sense God does not choose our genes. We also choose when we mate and with whom; and whatever genes are "loaded" are the genes available for procreation.
Certainly God could pick and choose if He wished, but He has set the universe in order and established the "rules" and it would seem inconsistent for Him to then change them or to play favorites, since He loves each of us immeasurably.
I do believe prayer changes things but sometimes it changes our attitudes instead of God's natural laws; thank you for an interesting question.

Because of the fall of man we become susceptible to disease and genetic degeneration. As a result some people get genes that lower there immune system and other such things. And these people pass their genes on to the next generation. Your genes come from your ancestors.

To test if anyone CARES. Will anyone CARE for the sick person - or just ignore them? The sick person is not tested so much as the people around the sick person. Will anyone be motivated to find a cure to stop the sickness? Will policies be made for the general welfare to stop the spread?
GOD does not do anything randomly - I think. GOD has HIS plan and just hopes we use our FREE WILL to help people, not ignore them.
I heard that GOD gives each person only the amount of testing he/she CAN handle, not so overwhelming that hope should be lost. Testing of our FREE WILL is not pulling strings. We are not puppets - GOD does not know what we will choose to do - that's why HE is so happy when we do the right thing.

No.....the so-called 'god' made nothing...... all genes are developed by evolution & natural refinement, mutating & adapting to environmental factors......... the belief that a benovelent old man called god (the backward spelling of dog..) created earth & the stars is preposterous...... the genes that are susceptible to illnesses.... will adapt and become perfect in....... about + - few million years' time!

this world is like a great big jig saw puzzle, and we only see the parts connected to ourself. God sees the whole picture. Maybe some of those with genetic problems are really angels in disguise. This world has "bad" in it because it is full of sin. There were no illnesses until Adam and Eve sinned. For now we see thru a glass darkly, but then we shall see all. God is too awesome for us to comprehend. We must believe.

I believe everything that is created is because God planned it in that exact way. I think personality falls under "Free Will". I'm not sure how to explain this the way I mean it, but I think that illnesses may be allowed to help you become stronger. I think they are part of the trials and tribulations that we have to go through, and if he foresees something in the future that you need to be stronger for, he is preparing you for that time.

I don't believe that God picks what genes you will get... maybe he does...
perhaps you get the ones you do so that your trials will be different from mine... or your brother's... or your neighbor's...
perhaps... people born unable to understand very much.. and hardly able to take care of themselves... are blessed so that Satan can have no influence over them.

there is a theory if you believe in reincarnation. that says that when you decide to reincarnate to work through some unfinished business from the last time . you get to chose the circumstances under which you will have to live with in order to learn the lesson. usually harder than the other times.
