It certainly helps. Depends on how much soda you drink. Regular soda has a tremendous amount of calories, and it's all the high fructose corn syrup, if not just pure sugar. That's the absolute worst kind of carbohydrate you can possibly ingest. It's so simple that your body tries to burn it immediately, stores whatever it can't use quickly enough as fat, and then crashes because there's nothing left. It's like trying to have a campfire and all you have is newspaper and no wood. The flames will be too big to cook on for a few seconds and then will die away to nothing in a minute, and you'll be covered in ash.

A 20oz soda has about 250 calories. If you drink one of those a day, then cutting it out will help, but it won't make a "big" difference. If you drink 3 or 4, that's almost a *thousand* calories of sugar, just so you'll have something sweet to drink. If you're a typical guy trying to lose weight, you'll probably eat less than 2000 calories a day, so 3-4 sodas is half of that. And that is definitely a "big difference."

I read an item about that in some newspaper once and it said that by drinking diet soda instead of regular soda for a year would cause an averge loss of 11 lbs over a years time with no other changes in lifestyle or diet. Not much but 11 lbs is 11 lbs LOL

I know many people who changed to diet soda, and that is the ONLY thing they did differently, and they lost weight. An average of 6 pounds in one month.

It depends on how much you want to lose and on your weight at the moment. Do you drink loads of soda? If yes than it will help you lose weight but only if you are not dead skinny already. If you really want to lose weight then change your soda with water.

Not really because they both contain a lot of sodium which causes one to retain water. If you stop drinking sodas and start drinking water you will notice a big difference, fast.....i would put lemon slices and sweet and low in mine. Now I drink it either way. I did that and started walking every day and ate 6 small meals instead of 3 big meals a day and I lost 60 pounds....in 7 months.I have kept it off for 3 years. It really works!

Yes and no. You should eliminate the diet soda and just drink 8-10 glasees of water. Since you will reduce your sugar intake, that will be very helpful.

If you drink a lot of soda, it makes a huge difference. It's a lot of empty calories. Be careful, though, there have been studies saying that artificial sweeteners make you hungrier and eat more.

The only diet pop I like is Coke. And I'm not drinking it for diet purposes, regular pop tastes like syrup to me, however I do like Mt Dew.
