I haven't been professionally diagnosed with it, but I know I have it. It sucks. My sister has it worse than I do. OCD is very strange, but there's different levels of it. I don't have it too bad, but for example, it drives me absolutely insane if things aren't perfectly symmetrical. Like if I hang pictures on my wall, they need to all be symmetrical and lined up with one another or else I can't look at the wall and get really anxious about it.

My sister on the other hand, has a different type when she convinces herself of weird things. Like it will pop into her head that if she forgets to turn the printer off, her boyfriend will die. So she HAS to turn off the printer and will freak out if it stays on too long (like if someone else gets on the computer). She also has to wash her hands every couple hours or starts getting really weird about it.

OCD is very interesting though. Try to catch this show on MTV or something called "Real Life: Living with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder" or something like that. I only watched it once, but it was interesting. Like this one guy has to test to make sure his door is locked 20-something times before leaving the house, or else he would get so stressed out that it wasn't locked and someone would break in. Another girl has to always have things lined up in height order and swears that everything "left" brings her closer to God, so she has to smile into the left side of the mirror before leaving the bathroom, and stuff like that. She's also petrified of her mom dying even though her mom is perfectly healthy and all. So whenever she sees a picture or movie about death, she gets uncontrollably upset thinking that her mother's going to die. And the third girl has to touch the corner of everything in a room. So when she walks through the kitchen, she needs to step on a corner of every one of the tiles she steps on, and touch the corner of all the counters and tables. She also can't choose things at all because she's scared of choosing the "wrong" apple, so she needs her parents to choose things for her.

It's controllable though with treatment. You can see a specialist and they'll coach you through things so you realize that the things you do don't really effect anything. Like if you forget to put the lid on the milk carton when you throw it away, nothing will happen. They just forbid you to do whatever your compulsion is, which is really stressful, but you slowly get accustomed to it and realize that nothing happens whether you do or don't do it. It's a really frustrating treatment, but it works. It only takes a couple weeks to cure entirely.

If you think you might have it, speak to your doctor about treatment. It's nothing serious. If you already have been diagnosed with it, see a specialist to get it taken care of. It can be a pretty stressful disorder and with time can increase your blood pressure and more. Good luck!
