I used to get shin splints, too, until I got the right shoes and learned how to stretch properly. This is a really good site (see below). You have 14 days to prepare, so read the section about "preventing shin splints." Good luck, you will be fine! What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. It's really true!!

*Keep in mind that shin splints are an injury, as in a "medical condition." You might have to take preventative medical action in order to prepare for your basic training. There is nothing wrong with planning ahead and seeing a podiatrist who will prescribe orthopedic shoes for you, which might really help you out. The orthopedist (foot doctor) can also show you how to tape or wrap your shins, which is usually a method of "treatment" after you already have shin splints, but which can be used as prevention as well.

Well, I went to BCT as well and if you have a problem they will help fix you up. They don't just throw you to the dogs if somethin' like that happens to you. You'll get yelled at for having shinsplints but just suck it up and go on sick call. Good luck, man. If I could do basic over again I would (ofcourse you won't be thinking that while you're IN there)!

I get them all the time. I was in ROTC for 2 1/2 years. The physician on base told me to stand with your weight slightly shifted one side of your body, take the foot on the other side of your body (while keeping your heel on the ground) raise your foot as high as you can and hold it for 5-10 sec. Its going to burn but it allows you to stretch the muscle out easier. If you get shinsplints in both legs like me then do it for the other leg.

If you get shinsplints in basic training, go on sick call, they will give you the ice and ibuprofen.

if you are getting shinsplints then you are not running correctly,I think that you should ask a exercise pro. or even look in the library on exercising techniques

in case you get them, visit ill call. there is not any shame in it. more effective constructive to get it treated early than finally end up on crutches because you're being hardcore. no individual is hardcore on crutches. that's amazingly fairly demanding to get "chaptered" out of the militia for an harm. For something like shin splints, that's extremely not likely. do not worry. Take the operating advice in the different publish and also you received't have a lot to agonize about in any respect. i'm a wimpy runner and that i had a similar concerns going to military straightforward, notwithstanding it became out ok. I payed interest to type and that i made it by on time. you'd be ok too. slightly more effective about operating. the right footwear are important once you're coaching. visit a sturdy operating shoe keep- one which edges in route of marathoners and athletes more effective than style- and function someone seem on the way you stroll and run. Get sturdy footwear. I say back. sturdy footwear. not the $15.ninety 9 junk at whereever. assume to spend about $eighty. Then assume them to make you get footwear back in BCT. you have not got any decision in that, yet they're going to %. the finest of what they have for you. Now, operating. Your hands could go the front to back, not part to part or in circles, and function form of a ninety degree attitude on the elbow. Your palms shouldn't come above nipple aspect on the swing ahead. keep your back immediately and do not tilt your head at an unnatural attitude. keep it aspect with the pavement. or you're making it demanding to respire. keep your abs free to evade part cramps. do not clench your palms. enable them flop slightly. enable your jaw to carry free. ascertain that your foot hits the floor gently, you do not could stomp or shuffle. Shuffling will placed on you (and your footwear) out. attempt to run without listening to your ft. Breathe with the heart beat of the run. sturdy speed is mandatory. you'd be operating to chanting cadence. determining the progression of arm to leg to lung now can help you a ton later. best of luck to you. do not enable BCT scare you. that's not as undesirable as people imagine. (P.S. practice ingesting extremely quickly) :)
