From a religious standpoint, Noah must have taken a rooster and a hen on board the arc, not an egg, so the chicken came first after the great flood.
From a scientific view, the chicken evolved from some other animals and eggs don't evolve. So, it's the chicken

Once again the education system is falling apart. Scientist have discovered that it was the chicken. Like most things in life people and animals developed partly through cross breeding. The found that two different bird species came together and formed the chicken, from there it is like the Colonel always says "all in the mix.

The chicken. Its ancestors were mainly mammalian birds. Over evolution, they slowly converted chickens, and began laying eggs at one point. Thus the chicken came first.

egg... cuz maybe a different animal laid a different egg than others, and the new animals, the chickens, started their own breed?
