Both are excellent and very proud services. They do have theoretically two different functions:

1) A Marine force is designed to go in on the beach and spear head the attack and push inland.
2) The army is supposed to hold the ground behind and defend and keep the occupation of it and supplies running smooth.
That is historically theoretic use only.

Realistically the services are used much in the same fashion as the other depending on what resources that are available in a particular region and by need basis. That is what specialized units are for (Airborne, Special Ops, Green Beret, Seals ect...). They do whatever is they are called upon to do and do it well!!

I spent 8 years in the Air force and have buddies that are both active duty and veterans of all the services and they serve just as proudly as the other. It is up to you to determine what you feel is the right service for you as I did 20 years ago after taking the ASVAB (military entrance exam) and was given the choice of all to choose from. What is in your heart and gut determines it only!

I served in both, and it depends on the type of person you are. Marine Corps boot camp is harder than the Army's. The Army has more job opportunities and more choices on where you can be stationed at. The Army has more daily bull that you would have to deal with than the Corps. The Marines are more disciplined as a whole. The Army has better looking females though.

A good friend of mine was a Marine, and he said he loved it, and didn't regret it one bit. BUT........................he also said that guys in the Army get a LOT more "real world" training than Marines. He said that, if you plan on being a "lifer" in the Marines, it doesn't matter. But if you're only staying in 5 or 10 years, you can get a lot more training that the corporate world appreciates in the Army than in the Marines. He told me once, "I enjoy knowing over one-hundred ways to kill a man with my bare hands, but unfortunately, there aren't a lot of employers hiring for those types of positions." By the way, he's now a Green Beret in the Army.

I was in the USMC in the early 80's and as a woman felt like a lot of the men, especially those above seargent, we very resentful of women. If I had it to do over again I would have chosen the Army. They are more relaxed than the Marines.

This answer:

"Depends on how brainwashed you wanta be... Marines are stricter and tougher because they usually go in first and have to be on top of it.. downside is they also get killed off faster ... Army is tough but not as tough as the marines.. they usually go in 2nd and deaths in the Army are more from freak things than from fire fights. Does that help?... Safeest of all military is Airforce"

is the most satisfying for me. Think about which one you're most likely to be killed in.
