I understand that you don't have the money to take her to the vet but there are a couple of ways your can help her get rid of the hairball. Yes, eating grass can help but adding more fiber to a cats diet can help with hairballs. My mom's cat (she just passed away yesterday) used to like eating Raisin Bran and that would help her but there are special foods formulated with fiber to help with hairballs. There are also special gels or pastes that is made to help with hairballs (most cats usually like it). You can also buy laxatives made especially for cats to help them with hairballs. We used something called Omega 3 Fatty Acid (healthy and contains lots of vitamins) and either mixed it with our cats we cat food or put it in a syringe and had to force it into their mouth (the last part might sound mean but it's not, it's what we had to do to help our cats). But in some cases hairballs can get so bad (vomiting of undigested food, dry retching, inability to defecate, diarrhea, swollen abdomen) that it can cause very serious problems for the cat and needs to be taken to the vet...but you should also brush your cat often, that helps eliminate some of the fur...

Cats love to groom themselves, so you should try to brush your cat often to get rid of excess hairs. That way, your cat won't ingest as much. You can also get cat food that is formulated to reduce hairballs. There are also hairball remedies that come in a tube. Just give it to your cat according to directions and it should help with the hairballs. Good luck!

I'm guessing your cat is extra to vomiting as an alternative than coughing. It seems like she tries to vomit whatever out but she could not, so she swallows again. The remedy that the doctor gave made the coughing less. Its both considering the medicine had helped to kill the bacteria. Attempt to supply her a further manufacturer/variety of food. Might be, the food that you're feeding her now upsets her stomach. Try to appear at what she eats daily and look out if it occurs after of earlier than she eats. It hasn't ought to occur right after she eats.

No__ that is not normal__ -a friend of mine had a dog that was sick all the time & would not listen to any one. Finally after me nagging __ she took the dog to the vet & found out that the dog had a piece of plastic lodged in its stomach. Now after surgery , the dog is gaining weight & looks great. Talk to your vet____After all if you were trying to cough up some thing for a couple of days with no results, you would call your doctor.

could be cat flu. it sounds exaclty like they're coughing up hairballs. know if costs but you're going to have to take it to the vet. this can be very dangerous and he'll need antibiotics etc.

its very uncomfortable for them and as you are essentially the "parent" they look to you to help them. call your local shelter and see if they can reccommend a cheap vet and once he's better take out insurance. it does work out a lot cheaper.
good luck

Are you sure it is a hairball? If so, try giving her a little bit of petroleum jelly on your finger...they usually will lick it right up. The furball stuff you buy at the pet store or the vet is made of petroleum.

Put butter on the tops of her paws. Your kitty should lick the butter off and it'll slick up the hairball making it easier to come up. I have no idea why this works, but it does.
Here's a few more ideas

It's you responsibility to take it to the vet.

It doesn't have to cost a lot of money. Just search the internet for a Low Cost animal clinic near you. They will check her out for <$20
