In an absolute sense, a sin is something that distances you from God.

Considering that God created humans as about the most sexual creatures on the earth, I think that it would be unreasonable to imagine that God looks down on a person mastrubating. T

ry not to break the big 10 and you will generally be o.k.

It is a sin. "The deliberate use of the sexual faculty, for whatever reason, outside of marraige, is essentially contrary to it's purpose." For here sexual pleasure is sought outside of "the sexual relationshipwhich is demanded by the moral order and in which the total meaning of mutual self-giving and human pro-creation in the context of ture love is achieved."

Basically, sex is used for pro creation and binding together a husband and wife. To use it any other way, you are using it contrary to God's purpose and that is a sin. Masturbation lessons the importance of a spouse (I don't need a man, I can masturbate...) and God is a big believer in Marraige. I know this isn't what you wanted to hear...(no one does...I get frustrated, too...) so if you are a religious person (even if you are not) try praying, or take a cold shower. :-)

This is a difficult question.

Consulting catholicism is always a good start, because they have been cataloging these types of things for almost 2000 years now. Though I'm non-Catholic, protestant churches can be fickle in their doctrines.

So, first, the Catholic church does say it is a sin.

Second, if you are honest, I believe your own heart is telling you that it is a sin. That's why you asked the question.

So ... that's it. Its a sin.

But I'm glad you're a christian, because then you might be aware of this phrase "we all fall short of the glory of God". I believe masturbating does fall short of the glory of God. But so do many, many things that we simply can't rise up enough to do. When was the last time you spent a weekend in a major city witnessing for Christ? I know I can't tell you when I have. So ... there is this large grey area in life where we can see the "high life", but we so often fall short of it, or are not able to reach it. As St. Anselm said, "The highest does not stand without the lowest."

There are times I think sex/masturbation exists to kick us out of the "conduct" conception of Christianity. If God wanted us to act perfectly, then He failed miserably, now didn't He? Hmmm ... perhaps He has something else in mind? If we forgive ourselves, perhaps then others? And if we walk in faith, then we can share with others? Nah, that couldn't be it. I do know we're called to walk in faith and love of God. Sure, we shouldn't murder the guy that doesn't move away from a red light fast enough for us. There are major acts that we should not do. But lots and lots of the minor acts are simply NOT as important as having faith in God and His understanding and acceptance of our frailties and our inability to attain His Glory. We are unable to attain His Glory - but happily, He has other things in mind for us than simply conduct.

So ... it IS a sin ... but we didn't come to the Lord because we are sinless ... and we don't maintain our relationship with Him by being sinless. You obviously care about walking honorably. Honorably walk with your shortcomings as well.

And remember ... moderation in all things, even our failings.

( You will note, that I did not say it was "ok" ...
(( ... cuz, you know, that wouldn't be right ...
((( ... and I wouldn't want to directly mislead you, cuz then it would be on my head ...
(((( ... then that would be REALLY bad for me ...
((((( ... but I hope you see {wink} what I mean ... )))))
... though I'm not authorizing anything ... ))))
... but faith in God ... )))
... and accepting our shortcomings ... ))
... daily ... if that's the way it happens ... )

Peace, and walk in peace ...

.

Ask God. James 4:17 says If you know to do good or right and you do not, then it is a sin. But see even that doesn't answer your question until you have asked God. I masturbated for pleasure even after marriage and Christianity for several years until I realized that my mind was not pure and my thoughts were not only of my husband, so for me it had become a sin that I needed to turn over to God, repent from, and as a result, my husband and I have had a much more enjoyable pleasure life together. Sin is a motive issue for most people and you have to evaluate is your motive to satisfy your personal desires of the flesh or to bring honor and glory to God - when what we do is out of self-centeredness, it is sin - when what we do is to bring honor and glory to God- then seldom is it sin.

I believe that if you do it too much, its bad for your body and soul, and that God might've intended us to understand that, and maybe that's why some believe it to be sin based on those scriptures. Everything in moderation. If you masturbate 10 times a day, 7 days a week, you definitely need to slow down, but I'm sure you won't be damned for twerking it now and again. Its better than repressing it until you go half-insane from guilt and horniness battling eachother.

now the question is how many of u had sex or is married
tell her if u have done that or not then let her be the judge
its easy for married ppl to talk that talk but what about all the few endangered species (virgins) that try to hold out so i think all u ppl who dont know that feeling should shut up and stop pointing fingers at ppl who do check urself first.

U know u only live once and I do believe in God and I am a Christian but I do it anyways. Its the one think I can't help but do. I do ask for his forgiveness, but I don't think he really forgives me cuz if he did he would stop punishing me. I mean last night I told him I wasnt going to do it but I was so lonely that I was just in the mood so I did it and this morning found out that my mom wouldnt take me to McDonalds for breakfast like we'd planned. I think thats a pretty good sign.

Hmmm....a legalistic question.....the real question if you are truly a Christian is this: Does this activity honor and please God? After all that is the goal of a Christian. I would say it would be difficult or it is difficult to masturbate without having some physical image in my mind.....which would then take me over the sin of lusting......

yes
if you do it for enough years you will actually form growth on the 7th cervical vertebra that will start to pinch off the nerve stem to the arm/hand corresponding to the masturbation.
After you get it started (say 20+years of masturbation), it will continue to grow the bone spur till you have to have it surgically removed and the 6+7 vertebra fused together.

If God created man in His image, then wouldn't He be the one that started masterbation? So if it is a sin, then He was the first sinner. Right? If God was all knowing, wouldn't he know that man would have the need to masterbate, then in turn NOT make it a sin? "Do as I say, not as I do." Right?

But I say NO WAY... you want to masterbate... go for it!! What do you have to lose?
