And are you ever afraid of your dog?

Pitts need their people, they are one of the most loyal dogs out there and are great with kids. If you chain them up outside to be neglected (as so many do) they become neurotic and yes dangerous. No animal deserves that anyway. Also, if you train them to be mean, they will. Duh. That goes for ANY breed. They are absolutely beautiful and amazing family pets. They do not deserve the rep they have gotten, the dumb owners do.

I have a Pitt who was brought to the shelter, was used to "practice" and was almost killed then left to die. I am fostering him and hes an angel.

They "can" be dog aggressive if you don't socialize them well, but if you do things right you will have no problems.

I would like to add to the other posters... a baby was recently killed by a lhasa apso... so childern left alone with ANY dog is not a good idea, just in case. Also, Pitts are currenly number 4 on the list of most reported dog bites with labradors and cocker spaniels ahead of them. Dont believe the media people... they go for shock value. Learn before you spread hate which is unjustified.

1st off the person that said they all should be shot, needs to be shot their self! They obviously don't have a pit bull, so why answer the question?

I have 2 pits, love them to death. I would not give them up for the world. No i am not the least bit scared of my dogs. I have 2 small children too, and the dogs are great with them. Actually pit bulls are one of the most loyal dogs that u can own. They live to please their owners. Most pits will finish at the head of there training schools. However if u are gonna get one u have to be responsible, having pits u have to know there are just certain things that u can't do with them...be smart about it. Socialize them, train them if u can,

I own purebred APBT`s there is also a Rat Terrier, Poodle and aMutt that share the property. I have never had a problem with a pit dog and the other dogs because the dogs are`nt a threat to the APBT`s.
It`s as though the APBT`s know if it`s a challenge to them or not so they treat them like they were kids. I have never been afraid of any APBT that I have owned . This is a very special breed and not for everyone which often leads to problems down the line. My dogs are not pets, they serve a purpose and excell at it. You cannot just walk onto my property ,but in my presence you can approach and admire as much as you want. On daily walks, I`m asked about the breed and people are amazed how "well mannered" they are. To me, they are the greatest dog to ever walk the face of the earth .

i have had pit bulls for the last 20 years.

they are the most loving and loyal dogs i have ever had the pleasure of knowing.

ive never been afraid of any of them.

the only problem ive ever had with them has been from misinformed people that dont know what they are talking about and have listened to all the hype that they have heard about how mean and vicious a pit is. that and they dont do real well with other dogs. a pit likes to be alpha male just as much as the next male dog.

when my daughter was born, my female would howl every time the baby cried. and she would not shut up until my daughter had quieted down. when she was 4, she got into trouble and went running for the dog. she wouldnt let me touch my daughter, trying to protect her from getting a spanking. my dog got in between my daughter and me and stayed in the way until i finally made her go to her bed. i thought then that if she would protect my daughter from me, then she will protect her from anything. and she has.

they are wonderful pets and very loving.

pit bulls arent the demons that they are made out to be. the real demons are the phychos that train their dogs to attack other animals and to fight other dogs. those are the ones that need to be punished. its not the dogs fault that their owners want to make money fighting dogs.

i found a stray pit bull wandering the street one day and decided to pick it up.(i didn't know anything about pits and i didn't even know that this dog was on it just looked like a regular dog to me) so i took it to the vet to get it checked out and the vet said it was a pit bull and knowing only the negative things i was scared of her for a long time but while i was looking for a home for her i fell in love and ive had her for almost a year know. i trust her completely i know she would never hurt anyone. the one thing is that she doesn't get along with other dogs. another problem with owning a pit is you have to be able to put up with ignorant people who think that she is some monster just because she is a pit i get dirty looks all the time and when im out walking her people will actually grab there children in fear and move them to the other side of the street. but she is a wonderful dog and i wouldn't trade her for anything

It's great to have a pit bull. I love walking around with my big baby on her leash while she wags her tail and curious people ask me...what's she like? Will she bite? Wow, she's beautiful, is she a pit? Yes she sure is!

I love letting people see how great pit bulls are. Layla is a red nose pit. And I'm NEVER afraid of her...ever. I never have been and never will be. She plays with my jack russel and my sister's lab.

When Layla and I play though she cries because she can never catch my hands. haha She hates when I hold her paws. She'll actually start licking my hand and then open her mouth and lightly hold my hand and pull it away and then we just sit there with my hand getting more covered in slobber! lol

After we get rough and play, I look right into her face and get a big fat kiss!! She also likes to chase me and try to bite my shoes! :) It's her way of winning!

Other than that, Layla LOVES to lay in the sun outside and watch people walk by. She enjoys picking up her dish of food and taking it to my bed to eat. She HAS to sleep in bed with me or she'll stand next to my bed and cry. HAHA I love my pit bull. It's wonderful to own such a beautiful dog! I suggest it

To the other people...you're ignorant.

I had a pit bull. He was the sweetest dog. He never snapped at me or my kids. The only thing is he would get between me and my husband. Just stand there...not growl or bark...just stand and look at my husband like hands off buddy. Pits have a bad rep. cause people train them to fight. But if you give it lots of love and attention, then you will have the best pet in the world. I was never once afraid of my baby.

LOL, yeah, pit bull owners are always afraid of their dogs....afraid that they're going to get licked to death.
The worst problem with being a pit owner is all the stupid, uninformed people out there who have no idea about what they are talking about.

Our neighbors upstairs have the most wonderful pit bull dog. He is sooo friendly .... he comes running as soon as he sees us out in the yard or in the laundry room and just goes nutty trying to greet us and get us to pet him. I don't think he could be mean if he wanted to! He is also no problem with our larger male dog, or the little chi in my userpic.
