As usual, here I am with an inane question, wondering if anyone else is as odd as I am! ;D

I really like the taste of fresh cherries, especially Bings, Rainiers and Queen Annes.

However, I really hate the taste of almost anything that's "cherry flavored." This includes hard candies, drinks, jello, and -- of course -- medicine!

I wondered if anyone else has this "love/hate relationship"? The only reason I can think of it, at least for me, is that I developed a distaste for the flavor as a child, when I had to drink cherry-flavored medicine. When the brain links a certain flavor with a bad experience or an ill feeling, it's very hard to ever like that flavor again. Add to that the fact that the cherry flavoring is never a very pleasant or accurate reproduction anyway! Yuck! :(

Fortunately, I guess "real" cherries taste different enough from their cheap knock-offs that I still enjoy them. :)

I'd like to hear what everyone else's experiences are. Thanks!

Artificial flavors just aren't as good as the real thing. I love coconut in the shell but hate anything flavored coconut - even the shredded stuff you get in the store. Banana is another that only tastes good when it's the real thing. But I love raspberry drinks - go figure.

I have a similar distaste too, but for grapes. I love fresh grapes, but anything "grape-flavored" I can't stand. it might be because of the artificial nature of the flavorings that makes it taste horrible.

For example, grape soda makes me want to vomit since it's horribly sweet and fake tasting.

My wife is actually alergic to anything cherry flavored!!! Fresh cherries,,, she's ok with. She's also alergic to Tootsie Rolls, artificial banana flavors, and a few others that I can't remember. I can't stand anything with fake Grape,,, it literally makes me want to vomit!.
