I mean come on, if most major religions actually teach about love, peace, kindness and acceptance of fellow human beings, then why so much hatred to those who disagree. . . I just don’t get it. . .

So how does this work...because I am a Christian it means that by my very nature there are things I must not tolerate. Since I do not tolerate it then I automatically am a bigoted, racist person who hates, yet what is at the very core of my beliefs is love. Some how that doesn't make sense. It amazes me the thought process you people use. I can love somoene, i can be peaceful to them, kind and even love them, but that doesn't mean I have to tolerate the things they do. If someone lies, they are a liar, if they steal they are a theif....in both cases I can love them, accept them, show them kindness and yet I do not have to tolerate that they lie or steal. None of you would. Do you tolerate these actions or any actions that are against your personal beliefs? If you said no then does that mean you have hatred to those who disagree?

Are there those out there who in the name of Christianity or any religion hate others who are different. Unfortunately yes. And even more unfortunate is the inability or unwillingness of others to discern those people from others who truely practice that religion, especially in the case of Christianity. Man has created many names for Christians in the form of denominations. Understand that a true Christian believes that all things can be tested by the bible...Jesus never turned away from a sinner nor did He ever hate anyone who sinned. It was those people He was drawn to. To help them, to heal them, to teach them and this is what a true Christian does...if they ever do anything different then what you should be doing is not questioning Christianity, but question if they are truely a Christian.

For the same reason sports fanatics are will argue into the wee hours of the morning over the superiority of their favorite team over your favorite team - it's called human nature - and we are each one actually quite self-centered regardless of how "religious" we want to claim ourselves to be - so some may counteract the questions nice with phrases that soften the "my way or the highway" mentality, while others are more direct - but if my team loses, I'm not going to be a happy camper and I'm not going to stand around and watch you gloat - or if my team wins -how long are you going to put up with my "I told you so" before you're mind comes up with an excuse to be anywhere but where I am - so you see - it's not about religion - it is basically about what a human chooses to be fanatic over, unyeilding, closeminded about - that's why as a Christian - it's not so important what I write, which is unfortuante in this type of forum because it's all I have, but it's about how I live and what people see in me from one day to the next.

I had this conversation with my grandfather,a minister, when I was a younger woman and I asked him why are you so narrow minded? His response, which I have learned was quite wise - "I'm only as narrow minded as the Bible is broad" - the basic meaning - when we commit ourselves to a certain set of beliefs, religious, sports, politics - we will only be as open as we believe those beliefs to be broad.

Because the are practising an authoritarian faith. They have a book which is assumed true and must be literally true for them. Anything that challenges even one word of it destabilizes their belief system. If the absolute authority on everything and the received wisdom is questionable then the basis of their view of reality is in trouble and they would be suffering nervous breakdown, like suddenly finding yourself on an unsuspected acid trip where all sort of possibilities and options were suddenly available. They would be totally lost, and often describe it in those terms. They need to be told what to think, they are willing to pay to be told what to think, And they absolutely need the confirmation of thinking that everybody thinks like they do.

Oddly enough it's tied into Evolution.

Evolution has programed us to strive for the survival of ourselves and our culture. Each religion is it's on little subculture and so when their beliefs are challenged they feel as if that culture is threatened and they strike out. It's a matter of self survival.

Sort of like how we went to War with Iraq. It's over oil yes, but more then just oil. It's about what oil represents. We are dependent upon it for all of our cars, all of our plastics, all of our medical machines, music CD's, and everything else. So when the flow of oil was threatened on a subconscious level we felt as if our culture was threatened and we attacked in order to preserve it.

I dont know why? But i do know that those who truly practice what they're spiritual doctrine preach arent the ones screaming and raising all kinds of hellfire. I am super conviced about Jesus and the gospel he preached. But never have i judged, or yelled or gotton crazy cause someone doesnt agree. He teaches me to be humble. And well that's what i try to live day to day, not perfect by any means, but i hope you know, not all who are passionately convicted are crazy hateful people.

.........becoz ALL religions are fantazies that every one who has a religion wants to protect & keep....

...humans are so insecure & fallable in a changing world....that we want to have some thing that will not never change, always good & perfect.....and forever will be ours to keep......

...hence humans past invented heaven, paradise, etc...... and becoz everything in fantazy land is so good & perfect .... humans want to give this to other humans who..... ideally & impossibly.... have to be good & perfect.... or almost as good & as perfect.... that the human mind could dream of......

....Now wake up!....and face the real world ..... it is not perfect....n its not good......... there is war, famine, drought (caused by 'god' as punishment for evl humans)..... but then there is rape, robbery, murder (deeds of evil man)..........

Hence that anti feeling......etching & eating into the conscience of man..........that reinforces the desperate need for the perfection of the imaginery heaven & paradise......n the urge to do whatever it takes to get there.....by being good (like Buddha....sitting under a tree & harming nobody..) ....by being saintly (.....& grandiose, like the Pope, feeding on the beliefs of millions of poor Catholics)
..... or even by being evil & murderous (as Islamic suicide bombers....with promises of Paradise after their heads were blown off)....etc.

Any thing or anybody who goes aginst any religion will get a fanatical (n often very evil)...response......
its better to have no religion .....follow John Lennon .... & the Sun!

isn't everyone against things that go against their beliefs? i think it's important to remain polite and respectful with people we disagree with.
i am a religious fanatic. i believe that Jesus Christ rose from the dead and therefore what he said is important. either i'm wrong or i'm right in what i believe. i'm against the idea that it doesn't matter.

I'm not against others believing in something different than me. These kind of people are just not open minded and tolerant. This kind of thinking leads to hate.

I agree when someone asks a question to one religion then why does someone feel that they have a right to Bash the persons question...........If people really followed their beliefs then we would all be fine in the world

for the same reasons non-religious Atheist fanatics are always against anything which goes against THEIR beliefs...

It goes both ways moron...

Why are Atheists here in the religious section anyway... go away and let us believe what we want and you go believe what you want... STOP PUSHING YOUR BELIEFS ON EVERYONE AND TRYING TO CONVERT EVERYONE TO YOUR BELIEF SYSTEM!
