A Riesling is always nice, no overpowering flavor so if she's not into wine it's a safe bet.

Rawson's Retreat from Penfolds is a nice Chardonnay from Australia. I also like their Shiraz, but it maybe too overpowering of a red to use as a "house wine". Chilean and Australian wines have become increasing popular for their flavor and price point. Rawson's is around $10 +/- at most supermarkets. Penfolds has a wide product line and produces excellent wine of different varietals at reasonable prices. You can get the same quality of a $70 bottle of wine for $10 if you read and aren't afraid to try different wines.

PS: Always open a new bottle, it shows a nice level of hospitality.

Good luck and happy tastings

When choosing a wine, don't worry about the price...meaning...just because it's cheap doesn't mean that it doesn't stack up to the more expensive wines. Sutter Home, Beringer, etc. put out good varieties of wine for $8.00 and less. Here's a vital piece of information though: NEVER EVER try to impress a female with wine in a box. It's tacky. One more thing, never put ice in a glass of wine. That's not impressive either.

The only one-size-fits-all, everybody-likes-it, goes-with-everything wine I know of is...Champagne! (or any champagne-type sparkling wine). Korbel is under $10 and tastes fine, of course the higher the price, the more impressive. Piper Sonoma and Mumms, at $15-$25, are two of my favorites.

Columbia Crest or Sutter Homes. More important than the actual wine is knowing how to serve it. Remember, whites and zins should be cold, reds at room temp.

Go for some Italian wines...Pinot Grigio...light and sweet, not too dry, majority of the girls I dated love it. Ranges from $15-$30 Cavit is good, San Margharitta is more pricer...

I have to go w/a oldie but goodie....Riuniti's Lambrusco. Here in PA it's like $10 for a bottle and $15 for like a gallon. Just put it in the fridge and serve it chilled whenever. It's also great over ice w/a splash of seltzer for a spritzer like beverage!

My personal favourite is R.H. Phillips Toasted Head Chardonnay but not everyone likes Chardonnay's so try for a nice Riesling or a Merlot.

If you really want to impress her, buy Columbia Crest Grand Estates.

I keep it in the house when I bring a guy home and I want him to...

Works every time :-)
