I am having a b-day party for my soon to be 5 year old. Instead of the traditional cupcakes does anyone know a good dessert for kids to go with the cake and ice cream? I want to have something fun for the kids that they will like too. Any websites would be helpful or any of your recipes. Oh, by the way he is having a Buzz Lightyear party if that helps. Any ideas would be great.

My mom once made individual "dirt bottom pies"
I don't know if it really goes w/ your theme but it is definitely fun.

I'm not sure where she got them but she made them in mini sand buckets w/ a shovel. But a regular cup or one big bucket and served w/ the shovel would work too.

If you don't know what they are:

crush enough oroes to fill the bottom
make plenty of chocolate pudding
stir gummi worms in it.
fill the oreo crust.
sprinkle some oreo crumbs on top and serve

If it's a hot day, you could always go to the grocery store and get Rocket Pops. They're pretty messy, but they fit in with the whole spaceman theme.... or you could go to the Dollar Store, get some of those bags of party favors, and put them in brown lunchbags decorated like rockets and space ships and stuff, if you don't want to go the candy/food route.
I've also seen people who want to add something healthier take celery sticks, spread them with peanut butter or cream cheese, and tell the kids they're space ships. Don't really know many kids who would fall for that, but you might be able to appease your conscience a little.... Have fun :D

for my son's 5th birthday he was set on a pinata. I was a little concerned about kids with stick, but it turned out to be a great game for all the kids. I am not sure who had more fun the kids or the parents laughing at the kids. You can buy them already made at walmart or any party supply store. All you need to do is buy the candy to fill it.

For the dessert, get toy story fruit snacks, make chocolate candy by yourself. THey have candy molds at craft stores or party stores.

This site has some Toy Story-themed ideas. From my experience, I'd say don't overplan. 5-year-olds make their own fun!
