Exactly. The bible is one story, told by humans who lived 2,000 years ago. They had limited knowledge of the natural world and so invented other explanations, aka God. Science paints a much grander and elegant picture than religion could ever do.

Catholics are taught that you are not suppose to detest science. However, you are not suppose to detest the Bible either. There is actually a harmony between the two. Pope John Paul II actually wrote an encyclical titled "Faith and Reason." Whereas, you cannot live properly if you rely only on Faith or only on Reason. The two complete each other. The Bible is not a scientific book, nor it is suppose to be a history book.

If you read the first two Chapters of Genesis, you will come across two creation stories. One that has man made last and the other one where man was made first. Using scientifical reasoning, this already makes the Bible invalid, but it is not made to be taken as science. Theologically, looking at these two creation stories, one can conclude that God made man, and that Man is special to God.

In the Catholic sense, science and religion are like water and air. Humans need both of them. But you can't mix them together, and you cannot only live surviving on just one. I'm just a regular Catholic, so my answer is only accountable to me, but I will give you some links.

The first is to "Faith and Reason"
The other is a list of people who helped the advancement of both Science and Religion.

Science might have the answers to your questions but does that give you peace, understanding and have you grown to love or to hate because they do believe in God even if there might not be evidence of it as to what other may put it. Look around you and even you ask how did these happen? You get your answers and yet it still not enough because one question leads to another and next thing you know you still think it doesn't make sense. Science might explain how it started and how it happened but Bible offers so much more than it can fix your personal life including your relationship with your parents...look deep within you and you will see something. you don't even have to read Bible to discover what one day you will discover.

What is important to remember is that science and religion are not in conflict. They are complimentary.

Science is about what we know, and can support through facts.

Religion is about what we know and feel through faith.

There is no way to proof through facts whether god(s) exist, or do not exist. That's because it needs to be a matter of faith, and not something that can be concrete.

Many stories in the bible are metaphorical, and not to be taken as fact. Other biblical descriptions are historical events.

No matter how much you learn from science, there will always be an emptiness there. If we could eventually show through science the way in which the world came to be, and how, and why, and when it would end, it would not change the need for religion and faith one tiny bit.

If everything was about faith, and not about knowledge or facts you would be missing the other side of the coin.

You simply can't, since science has taken on the biblical challenge it has given us an opportunity to question how when and where the bible was written and by whom, we now know that there where more than thirty Gospels written and for some reason the writer took it upon himself to tell the people what he wanted you to hear, In the future science will bring out more real facts about the bible that will blow the lid off "Religion" and the so called written word, just remember religion cost money spirituality is absolutely free God dose not ask for or charge
for it plain and simple.

Belief has nothing to do with science. Belief is a gift, not everyone can have it... but to answer your question, where have you been for the last century??? . Science is proving the Bible true over and over... Gosh!! ... I didn't grow up in America, so I got a good load of all the anti-God stuff - baloney! ....
And for crying out loud, did you know it's bad grammar to write 'god' instead of God and 'bible' instead of Bible??? I learned that in an atheistic country!

Here's a link for you. After you read this book, can you still say science is saying something new that the Bible has not said it already? True/ unbiased science is proving God and the Bible... over and over. I am talking empirical evidence not the other religion like evolution they call 'science', ...... for crying out loud!

Well here's the link... don't be such a narrow mind... expand your horizons a little...

I don't just believe one story, and I do believe in science as well. But keep in mind that the science people once believed that the earth was flat, and they mocked anyone who believed differently. They have been wrong about a lot of things - don't look to science as the be all/end all 100% always right thing. You will be disappointed.

Science offers only what the bible has already told us. For instance, Job knew that the earth hung upon nothing. How long did it take for man to discover that it actually did? For men to lie down with men is forbidden. Why? Maybe aids. Men and women are only to have one sexual partner. Why? Look at all the sexual transmitted diseases. You are suppose to bury your defecation. Why? Diseases. These things are all in the bible long before scientist discovered them. The bible is more than just a story. It is there for our benefit and our protection, if we would only listen. Have a nice day.

what does Science offer, I'll take two. The Bible offers the way, and a choice to believe it or deny it.

I for one am a non-christian, however, I have had life experience with dating several strong christians. I was taken to their respective churches and given the same speech about going to hell if I don't believe in this or that. I noticed that some, but not all, people were believing in something because they were afraid of the consequences of not believing in something, and to me, that's no reason to believe in something.

Science does not condemn you for turning your back on a textbook, but God supposedly does. Science certainly has more appeal to me.

My 2 cents.
