It can actually be bennificial, however don't over do it!
http://www.earthanimal.com/acatalog/petHealth_internalParasites.html
Garlic cloves or Aged Garlic tablets
(Kyolic or Garlicin)
Cat/Small Dog (1–14 lb) 1/2 clove fresh garlic per meal or 1/2 capsule aged garlic supplement 2x per day
Medium Dog (15–34 lb): 1 clove fresh garlic per meal or 1 capsule aged garlic supplement 3x per day
Large and Giant Dogs (35–85+ lb): 2-3 cloves fresh garlic per meal or 2 capsule garlic supplement 2X per day
Caution: Excessive amounts of garlic can cause anemia. Follow the above doses. See your veterinarian if your animal is clinically ill with worms or during the treatment.
PS our Vet ASHMO:Asked one board: what should i do if my dad comes home and yells at me just because he is in a bad mood?
See you have to be careful in whom you take advise from. There are so many ill thought out answers, and pranksters, that you should always; ASK YOUR VET IF IN DOUBT. You don't know who we are, but those of us who offer some sort of link to educate you are normally being honest, and trying to help, not just joking around or earning points.

Garlic is actually good for dogs in small amounts... I would not give a clove to it though, too much. If your not sure of the toxicity, dont use it.
Also, just to add, do not give a dog grapes or onions... very toxic.

Not as an occasional thing (like in people's diet). It will actually get rid of almost any type of intestinal worm except for the tape worm.

You shouldn't make a habit of it, but it shouldn't hurt the dog. It might give him the runs and it might get rid of any fleas he might have had.
