Dreams mush what is happening in our lives into a story line. Often people will find that if they wake up and remember their dreams they can pick out every detail of their dream and how it pertains to their real life. We dream because it is our built in psychiatrist! It filters and rests our brain. It also allows for us to process information that we gathered during the day. During sleep we go through three phases, including REM sleep. In those three phases the muscles in the body and brain relax at different and alternating times.

Dreams are the conversion of thoughts, dilemmas, and hypothetical situations into a format which is fail-safe, and has no permanent affects. Dreams have been proven to be effective ways of learning how different approaches might affect real life.

Dreams are basically when the subconcious takes over the brain.

Some believe they are given to us by divine source. Some believe they are a hodgepodge of our conscious, subconcious and interconscious existances.

conscious (that which we perceive)
subconscious (that which is there but don't really think about)
interconscious (the realm of interconnectedness)

Well, we have them during deep sleep, and sometimes we remember them upon awakening or later and sometimes we don't.
