There was an article on livescience.com about how human arms and shark fins are made from the same genes. Which basically says that humans and sharks have a distant relative, just as apes, just as all life on this planet. Why can't people understand the beauty of that simple truth. How all of the biological life on this planet is made of the same stuff. Humans are the only species to achieve consciousness and some level of intelligence.

We are the ulitmate survivors. We survived, not by design, but with a lot of courage. An ever evolving mind and a little bit of luck too. (ex: If the dinosaurs were never wiped out, we wouldn't be here) There is something very humbling about that truth, revealed by science. Science is not a belief, it is a simple tool we humans use to observe the universe.

Humans have been evolving for 5 million years. Humans, as we are now, have been around for 100,000 years. All life has been evolving for 4 billion years. This is why life has so much variety on the planet from us to simple organisms. Remember your history and dinosaurs. We are here because they died. And they lived for over 100 million years. All these facts are from the findings of science.

Some people don't trust the answers science provides because it challenges what they have been taught and believe.

I, too, find beauty in life around me. Lakes, oceans, their placement, land, plants, animals, and, in particular, human beings are beautifully complex. You are well entitled to your opinion, and I'm certainly not ignorant enough to believe my posting will change it. We both seem to be awed by these living things, and yet, I see nothing simple about it. And I find the thought that any of those just 'happened' into being reprehensible, and lacking in common sense. I refuse to put my trust in something so everchanging as theories of scientists. And well-respected scientists are sure to tell you that their explanations for how everything came to be are just that: theories. Science conclusions change daily, refuting things concluded before. I do not find that trustworthy. I don't think science is a belief, either. There are some things that just are what they are. I love math for this reason, there's a right answer and a wrong answer and very little gray area. Many parts of science, where you can reliably predict outcomes on a consistent basis, where proof is evident, are trustworthy because they are proven, but the things you are speaking of and alluding to aren't proven, they're theories. Guesses. Again, not deserving of trust.
Again, I disagree we survived by courage, b/c if you look at the animal kingdom, we usually are not the ones noted for being the most courageous. We were chosen to 'survive' as you put it. Even your phrase "wiped out" shows design behind it, like they were just spontaneously wiped out one day? Someone chose this.
I am humbled by the truth, but the truth of how we came to be has not been revealed by scientists, only theorized about. The human body is too perfect, all the functions that work together. We don't think about breathing, we just do. It's a system that can not (and has not) ever been completely duplicated. It's intricate. That takes design and planning. No scientist can make a human being hapen out of nothing.
The idea that we spontaneously happened onto logical thought and rational consciousness, or that we were smart enough to evolve into the beings we are today, does not hint at humility...it reeks of ego.

1. Most people are told a fairy tale that is simple to understnad and backed by history rather than them investing in learning the truth. They become comfortable with the religious tales and are blinded and scared of what they do not know.

2. Every thing breaks down to a chemical level.....and then to an electrical level so why is it so astounding that a carrot would be related to a human.

3. Science is not religion and does not consists of beliefs. It isnt used to prove anything either. Science can only make predictions and disprove earlier predictions.

4. We are not the ultimate survivors by far! Algae should get that award.

Trust science? You mean the same science that assured me in the 70's that we were entering a global ice age, and is now telling me that there is global warming?

As far as the origins of man, I'll be happy to explain why I believe the biblical account over darwinism. Because there are no witnesses to what occurred during creation, anything that man comes up with is a theory, and unable to be proven through a scientific process, which requires the scientific method.

The scientific method requires:

# 1. Observe some aspect of the universe.
# 2. Invent a tentative description, called a hypothesis, that is consistent with what you have observed.
# 3. Use the hypothesis to make predictions.
# 4. Test those predictions by experiments or further observations and modify the hypothesis in the light of your results.
# 5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until there are no discrepancies between theory and experiment and/or observation.

But this is supposed to be based on observable facts. Evolution cannot achieve this using the traditional scientific method. What does that leave?

Faith. Just like those he criticizes for following myths, the evolutionist is practicing his faith. The evolutionist believes in the theory. They have their own scriptures, and apologea. And woe unto those who knowingly or unknowing tread on "holy" ground. They'll eat you alive. You'd think for all their vitriol, that you were in a church full of hypocrites.

There are lots of things that Science can not explain. Like where these original forms of life came from, or where this atoms started or how the whole universe was set perfectly, placing the planets on just the right positon as not to bump each other or why the earth is such a nice place to live in for humans and not in distant pluto and why people are unique from each oteh with unique thumbprints and genetic make-up.Have you thought on this? Sorry but I can not accept science as the whole matter of life because it is all human intelligence and my existence and purpose can not be explained by Science. If you are perfectly happy with what you believe in then i will respect that when the time comes you feel that there is still missing pieces in your life then you may need to meet Jesus.God loves you!He is just waiting for you. GOd bless you!

Survivors? A few thousand years makes us survivors?

Take a look around you. Read the scientific publications. It will take a miracle for human life to make it another 50 to 100 years.

Personally, I'll be surprised if humanity makes it another 20.

Also, I believe in a Creater and I believe in using science to understand his creation.

Dig deeper than the little article you read. Go out and experience creation (not the man made stuff). There is more true than you see now in both places.

the REAL problem is not science... but the way people interpret the findings...

ok.. let's just say that your information about human arms and shark fins happens to be true (I don't know if it is or not)... that they are made from the same genes...

I see NO logic in saying that they came from a common ancestor!!

If I put YOU into a room with ... oh... say 2 million types of plastic blocks...

and tell you to make 10 billion houses...

do you think that you will use some of the same type of blocks in several types of houses?...

do you think that some houses will have all but just one or two of the same types of blocks as other houses?...

yet you would have made each and every one of the houses...

they did not evolve from one to another...

no common ancestor...

no missing link.

They find comfort in the idea of a great big Daddy in the sky. The image of a father big, strong, protector, provider give them a secure feeling. Admitting that 'God' may be something totally different than that image is scary to them!
No disrespect to anyone, but people fear the unknown. Science & the knowledge we've gained are still relatively new to society. It will become more accepted with time.
Ya know about 500 years ago...the World was flat!
Blessed Be...

Not that people dont believe in Science, but Science also dont believe in Science, with this, how will people have faith in Science.

In this world, there are more things which Science cant explained and even experiment with. If Science is wonderful and can solved almost all things in this world, it will not have called "Science", people will treat it as "God". And all Scientist now will be respect as "Priests".

Try thinking back, from the starts till now, how many Scientists or Science experiments have help out in peoples' daily life?

The problem is how science can be twisted and perverted to no real positive ends.

Any time you mention science, people mention back (and with good reason) the Tuskegee Syphilis Study.

The Tuskegee Syphilis Study, carried out in Macon County, Alabama, from 1932 to 1972, is an example of medical research gone wrong.

The United States Public Health Service, in trying to learn more about syphilis and justify treatment programs for blacks, withheld adequate treatment from a group of poor black men who had the disease, causing needless pain and suffering for the men and their loved ones

If every animal or person has common genes, this only provides a unique creator. Apes, sharks, people dogs, cats all have the same creator. You can find similarities in every animal with another. Thats why they can use pig heart valves and goat heart valves on humans.
