When I owned a cat, she was never allowed on a surface where we put our food. That is gross. I don't care how clean they are, their feet still get dirty from the ground and their litter box. Funny, she was generally a disobedient and bad-tempered animal, but she seemed to understand the seriousness of this rule and never broke it.

I can see it now. The Emergency Room...A whole family has come down with the dreaded CAT-ON-TABLE syndrome...spots, PURPLE ONES...twisted limbs and the DEFINITE SYMPTOM that clues in the panicked hospital staff and forced an EVACUATION of the whole community...the whole family has CAT BREATH...
Look, if the idea of a cat being on a table in its own house creeps you out, you really need to get a grip and accept the fact that the world is NOT A STERILE PLACE and that not all germs originate with four legged animals. The chances are much better that you would get ill from your neighborhood restaurant or a sneezing friend than a cat.

Face it, the cats get onto tables and counter tops when you're sleeping or away from home. I use to go frantic when this happened, now, I gave up. Bless her little heart, she seems to be relieved by that as well, and stays off my kitchen table. Unless... the sun shines directly on it, or there are birds outside chirping like all get out.. . Same with the window just above the sink.. When I say down, she grumbles, and gets down.. Then she sits across from me at the table, with only her eyes and ears showing. Gotta love her!
Oh! I also use those clorox wipes just to be safe

We don't let them. We toss them down......we spray water on them......I think it is their natural instinct to be up high.....They probably feel safe up where they can see everything going on. I also think counters are often warm because of appliances or the
sun shining through a window. My cats have done better since I've put a few boxes around the house for them to lay in. They really don't get on the counters unless there is food left out. I also put THEIR food dishes up high instead of on the floor and they usually just jump up there. (I know they like to sun on the dining room table because it's near a window.)

Cats keep themselves very clean, cleaner than most humans. I have had cats all my life and it is very rare that they ever have litter stuck in their paws. On the occation that they do, I wash it off their feet as soon as I notice it. Ive never gotten sick from my cats walking on the counters or the table.

unless you put your food directly on the counter or table and then eat it off of that surface, it is not unsanitary for a cat to walk there. people use their "litter box", don't wash their hands, and then eat or prepare food for you to eat. at least, cats wash & keep themselves clean daily, which a lot of people don't even do.

NO MEAL IS COMPLETE WITHOUT A CAT HAIR IN THE MIX. AND TRUST ME, NO ONE IS GOING TO DIE IF A CAT WALKS ON THE COUNTER OR TABLE OR THEIR HEADS... I HAVE MORE THAN A FEW CATS AND THEY ALL PRETEND NOT TO WALK ON THE COUNTER. JUST LIKE I PRETEND THAT THEY DON'T

I don't "let" my cats do these things, it is just impossible to stop it. I am not home most of the day, so they do what they want to. In the evening, when my back is turned, up they go. I yell, they jump, and we start the whole cycle over again. Love those little fur babies.

My new cat jumps on the counters and I think it's pretty gross. So to try to brake her out of that habbit I squirt her with a water bottle or snap my fingers at her. Everytime she thinks of doing it she sees me reach for the bottle or hears the snapping sound and walks away.

i have 2 cats & they are not allowed on my counters or tables. Sure people say thet are clean, but i agree with you on the litter box, but they also bathe them selves & that includes their nasty poo butts. The same goes with dogs, they lick their privates & then people let them lick their faces YUCK ****
