I gave my parents a gift one time of a thing I typed up (on a typewriter, no computers then) I titled it Mom, Remember when....
Then I typed a page full of things that were special memories for me when i was younger.
I did the same thing for my dad. It was one of the few times I saw my dad cry! My dad has been dead now for 14 yrs but my mom still has the framed pages hangning in her house.

I don't know what to give them as a gift, but I would definitely write each parent a letter, telling them how grateful you are for all the help each has given you, not just for the wedding, but throughout your life. Have your husband do the same. They'll treasure that more than anything you buy them, trust me. Good luck!

Don't write a letter or anything sappy like that for the Dad's. Speaking as a guy, that is not something I would want. A simple gift certifacte or a nice bottle of wine, is all I would want. Men generally do not want that sappy stuff, even from a daughter. And the suggestion to send your parents on a trip... that would be nice, but if a newlywed couple could afford that, they wouldn't have to rely on their parents help and wouldn't need to thank them. Get serious.

RE:
What's a good wedding thank you gift to give to parents?
I'm getting married soon, and I don't know what type of gift to get for my parents or my fiance's parents. My parents are divorced, and his are still married. I don't want to do the traditional wedding hanky or parent album, but I do want the gifts to be sentimental. Any...

What you should give your parents is a gift certicate. Give them a gift certificate. Your mom should have her own gift certificate and your dad should have his own gift certificate.
For your fiance's treat them to dinner at a fancy restaurant. Or get them a gift certificate also. You could also send them on a trip where they wanted to go and never had a chance to go there.
That will be a gift fro them from both of you.

We gave my husband's parents wine glasses that were engraved with our names and the wedding date and they also had a starfish on them (our wedding had a beach theme). I found them on Ebay and the guy was very helpful and quick. They were very reasonably priced and they're beautiful. He'll do whatever you want and he can do just about any picture on them. Just type in engraved wine glasses on Ebay and you'll find them. Another idea is framing a wedding picture of you guys and getting the frame engraved with your names. Good luck!

When we were getting married, my husband and I went to www.personalizationmall.com. We got his dad a plaque with a very nice poem on it, and my mom a purple (her fave color) plaque. And, it's personalized, sentimental, and oh so nice!!! I am on their mailing list, and if you make a purchase by 7/29, and use the code "3DAYSALE", you can save $5. Personalization is always free and the shipping is SO quick!! I love them and have used them for other presents since then. His dad's plaque made him (my father-in-law) tear up...now THAT'S good!! :-) Good luck!!!

My husband and I had this problem as well. We went to Walmart one day and we saw this cute picture idea. We had a pic of the day he proposed to me, and we had that made into a puzzle. We also bought like wooden door hangers with different animal shapes. I painted both of them and placed a picture of both of us in the center of both things as a gift. For my own personal gift to my parents, I worked on a puzzle and got it framed for my Dad, and for my Mom I made a scrapbook. She absolutely loved it.
My inlaws from my husband side, took pictures that reannacted the most memorable parts of their life. They created a book, for each family about their individual child. So your parents would have a book that is about you. The last pages would include your husband or fiance. Have fun with it.
With your parents being divorced you could do smaller item gifts that still have that sentimental feeling.

Can your write each of them a very special letter- not just a thank you letter, but one filled with memories of your happiest times with them and all the ways they have supported you, helped you, etc?
That's what *I* would want most!
Best wishes to you for a lifetime of happiness!
from a grandma-aged person
