I just got braces 2 days ago and i cant eat ANYTHING except liquids and like mashed potatoes. My family and i are going on a cruise to hawaii next saturday and i am worried my teeth will still be sore by then , and i wont be able to eat anything! THE HORROR. I KNOW. Will someone please tell me how long teeth are regularly sore for, and if i will be able to eat regularly by Aug. 5!! thanks sooo much :)

After the initial 3 - 4 days you should be used to them and the soreness should be gone. You should be just fine on your vacation. No worries.

Your teeth will probably be sore for a couple more weeks but should be a little better by your trip. Ususally when you first get braces they hurt a lot because your teeth are adjusting to them so try to take some pain medication and think of the long term results :) !

when I had braces, a few years ago, they were really sore for about 5 days and then they were okay. Every time I had my braces adjusted after that it was the same problem--sore teeth for about 3-4 days. I hope this helps.

You will be able to eat by then - don't worry. The pain lasts for under a week for the most part. Don't baby your teeth. When there is pain, you normally avoid chomping down. If you chomp anyways and try after 2-3 days to eat regular, then they will feel better quicker and you will be able to eat with them.

My second time with braces (which was, admittedly, the worst) I couldn't eat solid food without considerable pain for about two weeks. Truly solid food consisiting of anything the density of toast or harder.
For the first week I couldn't brush my teeth and literally had to live on applesauce and thin oatmeal because I couldn't bring myself to bite down on anything else.
On the bright side, I lost five pounds. So...just wait and see. Hopefully you do well. Have fun!

dont worry. the pain will go away with a few days. it doesnt last very long. you dont need to take tyneonel, aleve, etc. I didnt use it at all when i first got braces.
youll really have to watch what you are eating during the time period of when you have braces if you want to take good care of it. Brackets can break off pretty easily so be careful. (;

My friend had braces and it took her just about 5-7 days before she could eat harder stuff so I think you will be able to. If your teeth hurt in about 5-7 days get pain medicine and take one about 1 ever other day. Or you could get a ice cube and let it melt in your mouth it will make it feel better(just don't bite the ice cube).

yes i know i couldnt eat for a week! um i had lots of spagetti and then cut it up very small and swallowed it whole. it will be sore for about two weeks but at lest next week youll be able to eat reall food!

depends on pain tolerance. i was able to eat solid food 3 days after getting my braces. but for the first few months, when u go in to get them tightened they will hurt again but u start to get use to it.

my friends teeth were sore for like a week or so but it really depends sorry about that hope you enjoy you vacation :)
