I went to the pool yesterday and I forgot to put more sunscreen lotion on after I got out of the water. I got really burned on my legs and shoulders, they are as red as a tomato, and I am not exaggerating. I couldn't sleep last night because they hurt so much and they have been killing me all day. Does anyone know how to make it stop hurting as much?

I have very fair skin, if you hold a white towel up to me I blend right in. I am also terrified of getting skin cancer.

As an Irish girl, I also have fair skin and have experienced some pretty nasty sunburns in my day.
Here's what has worked for me:
1) Gently dab yourself with a cool wet washcloth, or take a cool bath if you can stand it.
2) Smooth aloe vera gel on your skin (don't use lotion, it will sting!). You can buy this at the store. Even better, use the juice of a real aloe plant if you have one.
3) Take a couple anti-inflammatory/pain reducing pills like ibuprofen.
4) Drinks lots of water to keep your skin hydrated.
You should feel a lot better in a day or two. Don't forget to keep applying the aloe vera gel- maybe you'll get lucky and you won't peel! Good luck and stay in the shade!

Aloe Vera gel -not any kind of cream or lotion. the aloe vera gel is a clear green and very cooling as well as having healing properties for burns. i have used it and my son has (very light skin that burns) and it made the sunburn go away faster. get it at a drug store or walmart or someplace like that and put it on tonight. If it blisters (not peeling like in a few days, but actual blisters) you may need to get it checked out by a doctor because that could be sun poisoning. drink plenty of water too. maybe take advil if you can take it, for pain and inflammation.

Don't worry, just because you got burned once doesn't mean you can get skin cancer. I have been burned several times. I would first take a couple of Tylenol for the pain and then rub some aloe vero on the burn. I might sting for a couple of seconds but it will feel better I promise. try sleeping on your stomach and putting cold(not too cold) wash cloths on your back. This should help some and drink plenty of water.

When you burn yourself whether it be from a hot curling iron or the sun you need to run cool water on it to bring the temp down on your skin. That's why when you get sun burn even after a day it's still hot to the touch. Try aloe and a wet cold rag on top of it. It should comfort a little also a cold bath will help. Hydro cortisone cream also helps with skin iteration.

Aloe Vera is your best bet. Whatever you do, don't pop the blisters (if they arise). When I was a kid, I had a really bad sunburn, and when I got out of the tub, I thought that I was still wet. I wasn't; they were huge, pus filled blisters. The blisters caused me to stop sweating, which made my urine very concentrated. If it hurts to urinate, that's why. Make sure to drink a LOT of water, even though you'll be afraid to because urination hurts. Staying hyrdated will take that pain away and cleanse your body.

take a cool bath to try and cool your skin down and then there is an Aloe Vera gel that contains Lidocane which is a topical paining medication.
Good Luck Sweetie!!! Next remember the sunscreen..

sorry to hear that. drink lots of fluid and use an aloe vera lotion which will soothe the skin. also you may want to take a pain killer before going to bed so you can get some sleep.

Get yourself some Aloe Vera gel and put it in the fridge and put it on as much as you like.
Also cold tea bags works a treat too...you need to draw the heat out...cool showers, and loads of cold Aloe...
good luck

I keep my aloe vera gel in the fridge to help cool off a burn. Aloe plant is also helpful. Cool wet towels.
