you notice how it's the fundamentalists that have to plaster their religion all over their cars? Like it makes a difference.

Where does the fish come from? Aside from the “fisher’s of men” language and the feeding the multitude miracles, the fish take on additional meaning during Roman persecution. Nero started “state sponsored” persecution of Christians but that was largely cenetered around Rome. It wasn’t really until Domitian (reigned 81-86AD) and Trajan (reigned 98-117AD) that state sponsored persecution of Christians was carried throughout the empire. During these times (and other times of persecution) Christians would use the fish as a sort of password. When people got together and wanted to make sure another person was a Christian they would draw in arc (in the sand or in their pudding, whatever) and if the other person was a Christian, they would draw an opposite arc to complete the fish.
- Ἰησοῦς - Jesus
Χ - Χριστός - Christ
Θ - θεός - God
Υ - υἱός - son
Σ - σωτήρ - savior
So “fish” or “ἰχθύς” took on new meaning as an acronym: Jesus Christ, God’s son, savior.
ANd actually SAING THAT WE R CHRISTIANS INVOLVE MAKING OURSELVES "SERVANTS" of other people.... as JEsus said...
Mathew 18, 1-5.10
1
1 At that time the disciples 2 approached Jesus and said, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?"
2
He called a child over, placed it in their midst,
3
and said, "Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, 3 you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.
4
Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
I hope that answers ur question..

Ummm. I don't believe that Jesus has ever said, "Give a man a fish, he eats for a day, but teach a man to fish and he eats for life."
That fish decal is referring to when Jesus said that he would make his followers fishers of men. The purpose of that decal is not to make someone superior. Yes, the saying you referred to is "just logic" and it is NOT the meaning of the Jesus-fish decal.

"Give a man a fish, he eats for a day, but Teach a man to fish and he eats for life." Sorry, but Jesus didn't say that. I believe it's a Native American proverb or Chinese Proverb---I don't think anyone knows exactly who wrote that.
The "Fish" signifies the scripture that states, "I want to make you fishers of men."
Matthew 4:18-19 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. [19] “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.
Also, one of Jesus' miracles when he gave the sermon on the Mount and the people were getting very hungry because they had intently listened to Jesus preach for hours.
Mark 8:1-5
1 In those days, when there was a very great multitude, and they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to himself, and said to them,
2 "I have compassion on the multitude, because they have stayed with me now three days, and have nothing to eat.
3 If I send them away fasting to their home, they will faint on the way, for some of them have come a long way."
4 His disciples answered him, "From where could one satisfy these people with bread here in a deserted place?"
5 He asked them, "How many loaves do you have?" They said, "Seven."
6 He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground, and he took the seven loaves. Having given thanks, he broke them, and gave them to his disciples to serve, and they served the multitude.
7 They had a few small fish. Having blessed them, he said to serve these also.
8 They ate, and were filled. They took up seven baskets of broken pieces that were left over.
9 Those who had eaten were about four thousand. Then he sent them away.
Hence---the fish!
Word of Warning: If you're traveling behind one of those cars, it is very likely that the driver will disappear at any moment. Stay far back and not tailgate!

Jesus never said "Give a man a fish, he eats for a day, but teach a man . . . " that was Lao Tzu - philosopher.
any way, from what i heard the one year I was in private Christian school, the fish was the Christian symbol when the early church was under much persecution. The Christians would sew fish onto their clothing so others could tell. they prolly did that b/c Jesus said that "fishers of men" thing.

The fish has nothing to do with the story you mention but was a sign in the Roman times of a Christian home. When Christians were persecuted, they would have secretive symbols to declare a place of worship, the fish being one. Putting it on your car is kind of like putting on any other sign, just shows where your pride is.

Jesus told His disciples to put the net in the water. They obeyed & they caught many fish. They marveled. Jesus told them that they will be fishers of men. The fish is also the secret code of persecuted christians. So is the X, being the first letter in the Greek word of Christ.
They are symbols of christianity. It is also being a witness to others that Jesus saved them from their sins. That is also what we do when we are water baptized. The old man dies, the new man alive in Christ.

I think people put them on their cars as a symbol that they are good people. That way, when they get pulled over for speeding or some other violation, they are more liable to get off. Other the other hand, if the police were to pull someone over with pot stickers and mushroom stickers on their car they are already expecting to find drugs inside and will find any reason to site them. :) So, if the drug users of the world were smart, they would put jesus fish symbols on their cars too. But they're not.

The fish symbol is a way for Christians to identify each other. This symbol has been used throughout history to help fellow believers recognize each other. In the days of the early Church, during the Roman Empire, some early believers had the fish symbol as tattoos that identified them as Christians to others, especially the evangelists who traveled from town to town and province to province. The fish symbol is an acrostic of the Greek word for fish "Iota Chi Theta Upsilon Sigma, [Iesous (Jesus) CHristos (Christ) THeou (God) Uiou (Son) Soter (Savior)]. Alternative meanings (in order of decreasing popularity on the Internet) are:
"Jesus Christ, God's Son, Savior."
"Jesus Christ, of God, the Son, the Savior"
"Jesus Christ, the Son of God, Savior."
"Jesus Christ, God's Son, our Savior"
"Jesus Christ God Son Savior"
An acrostic is an "arrangement of words in which the first letter of each line ordinarily combines with others to form a word or words or the alphabet."(1)

Actually, it's a symbol Christians used to draw in the dirt after Jesus died and during the time when the Romans usually fed them to the lions. One half the arc for one person and the next would draw the second half the arc and then you'd get the fish.
That's what it means and that's why they put it on their cars.

Well, lets see. First of all I think you need to get yourself a little education. Jesus never said that....it is a chineese proverb.
Second, the symbolism of the fish dates back to when Christians were being tortured and persecuted. It signifies the name of Jesus, it is an acronym---icthus
