I don't know...but bedbugs are WHY pajamas were invented (not to keep you warm). The nasty thing is, I heard on TV a couple weeks ago that bedbugs are making this HUGE comeback! Seriously. There are more and more of the little blood-suckers out there and for some reason they're (all of a sudden) breeding like crazy!
Maybe this would make a good question for the biology types over in the Science category???

Back along time ago when the poor used to sleep in the hay and the parents would tell the children "Don't let the bedbugs bite" ... they literally meant it lol cuz there were bugs in the hay. But i dunno how it became a cute phrase. Poor people always have better things than rich people, so maybe some rich heard it and spread it around.

Back in the day, before the tempur-pedic beds came along...the bottom of the bed, where a box spring would normally be place on, was made out of woven rope. But the problem was, the rope would come loose and you have to tighten them every night (the "sleep tight" part). Also, lots of ticks and bugs like to feed off the rope and people would get bitten when they slept. So thus the saying, "Sleep tight, dont let the bed bugs bite!"
