My twins were late talkers too. now that they are four they won't stop talking
You should mention it to your pediatrician though. She may be just taking her time but then again it could be an early warning sign of a serious problem, such as autism, which by the way organizing things in straight rows can also be a sign of.
If she's 22 mo she should have an appointment coming up at 24 mo. anyway. Just mention it then. Other than that keep talking to her constantly, read a lot, and never correct when she says something wrong. That can damage her confidence and make her want to talk even less.
Good luck

Well at 24 months a child should be saying around 20 words. Every child develops at thier own pace however, so if she isn't I wouldn't be too worried as long as she has at least a few words. If you are concerned you can call your local school district and ask for a speech evaluation. They have programs for children birth-3 years old and if they found she was in fact delayed they would offer you services free of charge. The best advise I can give you is too read books to her everyday, point out familiar objects and label them, and try having her use the words that she does have everyday. If she can say "cup" then have her say that before you give her her cup of milk. Good luck. I'm sure she is just fine.

My daughter is 25 months and also a late talker. My pediatrician said that poor pronounciation is less of a worry than not understanding language. If she is babbling, she probably knows plenty of words and just has trouble saying them. Again, my doc said that is fine unless we still can't understand her at 3. If she is understanding what you tell her and can follow directions etc. then I wouldn't worry too much. If you still feel there is something wrong a speech pathologist can be a great resource.

I am in a similar situation with my 20 month old son. My ped. recommended I contact an organization affiliated with our local school district. They evaluated him and feel that he is "normal" but the speech therapy would help him. It is a free service that is offered. Another great thing is that he has his sessions in a one on one format twice a month. On the off weeks we are invited to an educational playgroup for other toddlers in the speech program. I am amazed at the progress he has made in 4 weeks. To be fair though...I should mention that my son was addicted to his pacifier. Once I put it away...he immediately started making more recognizable sounds. He was not learning to pronounce his words correctly because he was always sucking on the pacifier. I would recommend that you at least look into the local programs. It will not hurt anything to have your child evaluated.

Trust me, she's fine. My son is 29 months old and still doesn't talk as well as other children his age. He is my only child and is literally the only child. I live in a very rural area and finding other kids for him to be around is very difficult. I started him in daycare about 4 months ago and that is when his vocabulary became a lil more developed. It seems that the more interaction that a child has with other kids their age the more it helps them to develop. Don't rush her, she will come into it when she is ready.

My daughter is 25 months old and alot like yours. Please don't worry at this point-children develop differently, and there is no hard and fast rule for when a child should start speaking. My friend's son was nearly 3 before he started speaking. When he did begin to talk it was full, sentences. He is 23 now and is incredibly intelligent and talented.

My nephew could say only "Daddy" and "bull" by the time he was almost 4. Then one day he just started talking in sentences! He's a successful businessman with a terrific family now, so don't worry!
