Darlin, get involved in EVERYthing. Sure you'll need to study hard, and make good grades, so extra stuff will have to be balanced with that, but this is the time to try new things and find out what you like best. Or what you're best AT.

Join clubs that interest you - if it turns out that they don't, you can move on and try something else. Balance the courses you have to take with the ones you want to take - and make those fun and interesting - join the yearbook staff, or take a horticulture class and learn to grow things - this can often substitute for science credit if you're not great in that area of study. Maybe join the school paper, or a poetry club - there are lots of options.

Get involved in sports if that interests you, or the school plays - remember you can often have more fun not being in the play, but being behind the scenes. If you're not the cheerleader type, then volunteer to sell programs or something at the games - it'll get you out there and participating.

High school may seem complicated and even difficult while you're going through it, but believe me, years later you'll look back and wish life was once again that simple. So get out there into the middle of everything you can - you'll have fun, you'll make great memories, and probably lasting friendships.

YES!....

PLEASE....stick to your books, and never loose the main focus of school....which is to actually work and get an education. Its real easy to mess up, next thing you know you'll see yourself as a demote, taking freshman year all over again. DOn't let ANYTHING stop you from your work.

#2...Like everyone. Be polite to everyone, even the negative people with a bad attitude and no type of home training. The last thing you'll want to do is for people to hate you, cause drama, and ruin your rep for good. You'll congratulate yourself in the end because only a few people go out of high school like that.

#3...trust no one; Simple and short, don't depend on anyone for work...or gossip. Truth is, in high shcool no one can keep their mouth shut, and your secrets will be sworming aorund the school

#4....you dont have to be friends with everyone. So you don't have to befriend every body just because they have a class with you. No matter how nice you are will some people will NOT LIKE YOU, do don't put yourself down.

The most important thing to remember is that your grades from here on out are going to be looked at when you start applying for college.
College is almost an absolute necessity in todays working world unless you want to work at a blue collar job. Like working in construction or other types of manual labor...
Study hard, but take time to play a little too. In colleges that look at you they look at what clubs/groups or organizations you were in while you were in High school. If you did any thing with a church or anything like that you should consider that would go onto your college application.
Good luck...

Don't take crap from anybody. High school is just a bunch of posers who set up their little 'domains' that don't really mean anything to anybody. Live your life, do what you think is best for you, and when someone gets in your way, make them regret it. You are entering the Twilight Zone of zombies and bullies. If you know what you want, and how to keep it in mind, nothing they do should bother you.

Oh yeah, DON'T trust the career 'counselor'. Start thinking RIGHT NOW about how serious you want to be as a student, what kinds of activities you want to participate in, and how much money you are going to need for college.
Don't forget to do something just for yourself every week, like guitar lessons or something fun, just for fun to let your brain re-create it's pathways and relax.

Get the biggest copy of the American Heritage dictionary and read some of it every day, plus check all your reports before turning them in. If there is a language survey course (a separate language each quarter) take it, then pick a foreign language for at least four years. If you can, take Latin.
In the summer, memorize complementary numbers and inverses; try to learn the squares and square roots up to a thousand; also binary and hexadecimals; then go straight to algebra, two years, and calculus as much as available.
Good Luck, study all your life.

I agree with "elsopalso." No one can put anything in your head but you. The key to a good job (thus a good home, car, clothes, etc.) is being able to do more than the next guy. Keep away from non-serious students and do what is best for you and your future. Study hard, do your homework, be respectful. Good grades and letters of recommendation will pay off in the future. Good luck.

don't socialize during Sunday night through Thursday nite.

Save the fun for friday and saturday.

if you get lost or don't understand, don't wait too long -- see tutoring..

Take lotsa pictures!

Be nice to everyone, don't be a snob

get into a couple extracurricular activities that you enjoy

Avoid sexual activity!!! (but if you must, wear a condom PLUS get on the pill too -- always both!!) But really try to avoid it, if you can. there is plenty of time for that later

Don't procrastinate with homework, because that will only make you get stressed out and you will hate yourself for it.

Be yourself, and never let peer pressure get to you. No matter what school is more valuable to your life, than quick no thinking decisions. Your education and true friends can add more to your life than drugs and alcohol. Enjoy High School

You have two ears but just one mouth... listen twice as much as you talk. (And learn proper grammar, punctuation and how to spell; you CAN fail now!)
