My SD's BM wants to voluntarily relinquish her parental rights...how do we all start going about this?? What paperwork do we need?? Also, I will be adopting my SD how do we go about that??

I have heard of other people doing this whole thing without a lawyer...do we really need to get a lawyer???

I live in Texas and got custody of my grand daughter.

As far as I know there is no way of doing any of this without an attorney.
If you can not afford an attorney there is a place called LoneStar Legal Aide and you can find them online for the number and address for your area.

If they take your case they will probably do all the paperwork for you and then you will have to do all the leg work and pay for the filing fees.

If nothing else give them a call and ask if there is a way to do all of this without an attorney, but I really doubt it.

Hope this helps and if you have any other questions feel free to email me and I will see if I can help.

I don't know if u can do it without a lawyer, but i would do it with one anyway. What happened when i did it is my sons BF went to his lawyer and they wrote up the paperwork saying that was giving up parental rights and could never get them back. He signed it, it went through the courts and then got sent to me. My hubby is in the process of adopting right now, so i don't really know much about that yet.

definitely go thru a lawyer. To relinquish rights there is a court appearance. Only a judge can finalize that. And you need to have all your paperwork done for adoption before they will TPR (terminate parental rights)
