Or better yet, what is the best way to prevent having one even if you drink a lot...

I love to drink but always regret it the next day because of bad hangovers...

There is no remedy. Water helps with dehydration, but it doesn't actually make you not drunk.

Your liver is a patient little chemical processing plant. It can only handle so much "throughput" and you can't speed it along at all.

The best advice is from John Wooden who told his players: Drink your first beer, sip your second one, and skip your third.

Its that last drink that is causing your hangover - so take a look at why you drink it. I mean, you already have a nice buzz, right? You want the night to go on, and on, and on. It's the impaired (or raised, if you will) consciousness of an alcoholic haze that puts that last drink to your lips.

Remember that the person who drinks that last drink is different from the person who drank the first drink.

Try to remember who you are while you are drinking, and you'll feel great the next day.

to prevent a hangover, drink a glass of water for every drink you imbibe. A hangover is basically dehydration. To cure a hangover drink lots of water, and have a drink. Just one. Hair of the dog is the best thing for it. If booze for breakfast is out of the question, then eat a very greasy breakfast.
Trust me,
A drunk

The hangover is from dehydration. Like others have said here, you should drink water while drinking, before you go to bed, and as soon as you wake up. Also, if you wake up in the middle of the night to pee, that is a good time to drink water.

In addition to hydrating, I like to eat a small meal after I drink. Ramen or some kind of soup seems to settle my stomach and helps to absorb the alcohol.

Lastly, try to get as much sleep as possible.

By experience have one quart of gatorade just before you crashed in your bed, if you get a headache the morning after try drinking a beer slowly and have some sleep, this will make you feel better, at noon have another beer with a chicken soup or somethin spicy.

Ibuprofen (like Motrin or Advil), lots of water, and some yogurt with whole fresh fruit (not the jelly and jam in the bottom of the yogurt cup).

The pills are to reduce inflammation. That boozing has caused little microscopic injuries to blood vessels all over your body, especially in your eyes and brain; the swelling and inflammation associated with these injuries HURTS.

Water to reduce dehydration. Alcohol dries you up.

Yogurt to replenish the "good microbes" that usually live in your stomach and gut, but have been killed by alcohol poisoning.

Fruit to bring your blood sugar level back up and to provide vitamin C and zinc, which are important to heal those little micro-injuries I mentioned above.

Take a Chaser pill before you start drinking. For me, Gatorade and Visene have helped to help with a hangover you already have.

Drink seltzer water in between drinks, and then drink gatorade or seltzer the next day. A greasy egg sandwich might help, too.
