A rattlesnake bite can be fatal if you do not get to the hospital on time for some anti-venom shots.
Body parts do swell up pretty ugly even if you are given anti-venom. sometimes they have to cut out part of your flesh because of necrosis or the tissue dying.
They used to have a tc series about it on Discovery channel. Very graphic.

The venom in poisonous snakes is like any other kind of poison. Some types are more deadly than others. Also it depends how large the person or animal is who has been bitten. I baby could not sustain most venomous snake bites, but a 300 pound adult could survive most.
