The Protoindo European god Yayash, Yaë or Yave, a protective god whose symbol was a tree, signifying possibly '"walking", "going", "a pilgrim", has been dated back to the Indus River valley, circa 2900 B.C.E. He has been identified with the Turko Syrian Yahveh, a "sacred animal or organization".

"Yahweh appears to have been originally a sky god - a god of thunder and lightning. He was associated with mountains and was called by the enemies of Israel 'a god of the hills'. His manifestation was often as fire, as at Mount Sinai and in the burning bush." "A shorter form, 'Yah', was also used (Exodus 15:2) and some scholars believe that this is the older form, originating in an exclamation to God - 'Yah!' - which came to be accepted as the divine name. Others claim that it is from the root 'hayah', 'to be' or 'to become', and that it meant 'I am that I am' or I will be that I will be'. According to one tradition of the call of Moses, the divine name Yahweh was revealed to him in Egypt: - Great Events of Bible Times

"Originally, these four consonants [in YHWH] represented the four members of the Heavenly Family: Y represented El the Father; H was Asherah the Mother; W corresponded to He the Son; and H was the Daughter Anath. In accordance with the royal traditions of the time and region, God's mysterious bride, the Matronit, was also reckoned to be his sister. In the Jewish cult of the Cabbala God's dual male-female image was perpetuated. Meanwhile other sects perceived the Shekinah or Matronit as the female presence of God on Earth. The divine marital chamber was the sanctuary of the Jerusalem Temple, but from the moment the Temple was destroyed, the Matronit was destined to roam the Earth while the male aspect of Jehovah was left to rule the heavens alone." - Laurence Gardner, Bloodline of the Holy Grail, p. 18

One of the last items faced concerning the Scriptures is of more recent origin and may account for the vast majority of the linguistic problems that occur. I refer to the reworking of the Hebrew language by the Masorites and Tiberians, between the 6th to 12th centuries C.E. The Masorites were responsible for many of the alterations in the vowels and definitions of the Hebrew words. In that the language had not been a spoken one for at least a hundred years before their endeavor, and not until 1948 was it brought back to life again after not being spoken for nearly 1600 years. This is one reason why meanings of a number of words are unknown thus making it difficult for the modern scholar to rely solely on the Hebrew version as the last authority. This is why the tablets from Ebla are still important as the language is akin to the Hebrew and can give us a clearer understanding of 'uncertain' words.
- Rev. Robert Palmer (private correspondence).

Because the Hebrew language does not employ vowels in its written form, the correct pronunciation of the Ineffable Name of God was lost & not rediscovered until about 300AD by the Kabbalists who gave it the title Tetragrammaton, "the word of four letters," & "the square name," or more simply, "the square." At that time the Shem-ha-meforash became represented by the simple form YHVH. -Charles Ponce, Kabbalah, p 175

This hypothesis is not intrinsically improbable, and in Aramaic, a language closely related to Hebrew, "to be" actually is hawa--but it should be noted that in adopting it we admit that, using the name Hebrew in the historical sense, Yahweh is not a Hebrew name. -Ency Brit 11Ed Vol 15 p 321

answer to JasonLee:
Whatever you want to call him, just know that he is a jealous and bloodthirsty(but later became loving) God who sent his son Jesus Christ and brother Holy Birdie Chirpie to give us salvation. By accepting Jesus as our God and Saviour(and also his step-brother Holy Birdie) we will have eternal life. Real question is have you accepted Jesus and His Uncle and His Father The JEALOUS OLDIE as your personal God and saviour?

It is ridiculous to elevate the rantings of some anti-God philosopher over the divine Word of God. True worshippers are humbled by the miracles of truth, wisdom, and fulfilled prophecy found in the Scriptures.

I don't think that most people that have faith are interested in the history of their own religions. If you try to bring up the history they will just dismiss you and say that "you have not found god" or "I don't believe you" or something similar. If they find something that conflicts or is bad they will say that "god cannot be understood by man". It is all very silly. If they are going to believe in something I would think that they would want to have some kind of proof, some kind of historical documentation, otherwise don't they see that they are just being led? There were editors of the bible, there were PEOPLE that edited the word of god and chose which scrolls would be included in the bible that is read today. For those that say they know he exists because they feel god in them, the reply is: so does every other person that feels "faith" in their respective religions, ie: everyone feels that they belong when they are religious, it doesn't matter which religion they believe in. For those that say "look around you, do you really think that there is no creator?" I would say that there really is no proof, I would also ask what exactly they mean by that because so general of an answer is useless. I believe that people have the tendency to look around and when they see things that are complex beyond their respective IQs or minds, they just give up and look for a simple explaination that they can kind of understand even if it doesn't make sense and you need faith in order to believe. There are so many religions but the 6 major religions have hundreds of millions of followers each. Each one of these devout followers believe that the followers of the other religions are wrong. I am amazed at how people have such a difficult time seeing the bigger picture of the people of the world because they get so caught up with what is near and dear to themselves. Bottom line- the vast majority of the worlds people are ignorant and in crazy denial. I wish that everyone in the world could just open their eyes and see each other for once instead of just seeing themselves, because if they did they will see that everyone is believing stories to be true because the stories say they are true and for some reason we are all looking for the meaning to a life that we think must have a meaning but in reality a "meaningful" reason to our lives may not exist other than procreation which in a simple way is the most important thing of all. Why does everyone feel that they deserve a meaning to life that is meaningful to themselves?

God is real, and has been revealing himself to every race, culture and nation in the world. So if course people all over the world and in all different times have learned things about him. And, surprise, often they are the same things. (Funny how different people can look at something real and see the same thing).

Every religion has bits and parts of the truth. Some more than others. But no one religion was able to get it all right. God is simply too big and too complex and too overwhelming for man to figure out. That why He had to come to earth himself, in the form a man named Jesus, to finally get to the full revelation of Himself to mankind.

So of course you are going to find things in Christianity and other religious that are the same. They are based on something real.

Every week there seems to be a new theory on the Pagan roots of Christianity.
Its all rather interesting, but It still doesn't make me believe in Jesus Christ any less.

**Just because I am not going to throw away my beliefs because of the the article you posted, it doesn't mean I don't use my brain.
I am strong in my faith . I'm not going to change my mind about Jesus by a few articles against Him. I know how Jesus has made me feel, and I feel wonderful having the Lord in my life, he is my Salvation, my joy and my strength.

There are a lot of theories and documents arguing this and that. Does one really need any such material to believe that a God exists? You just have to look around you - you really believe that there is no creator?

A Pagan God !?!? You believe and make-belief all you will as you have a choice. Whatever you want to call him, just know that he is a loving God who sent his son Jesus Christ to give us salvation. By accepting Jesus as our God and Saviour we will have eternal life. Real question is have you accepted Jesus as your personal God and saviour?

I am familiar with the information in your question and you presented it well. My guess is that Christians are not interested in researching the subject to learn more.

Personally, I worship the sky god Taranis (among others). I do not have any problems with what I might find out by researching for information about him or those who previously worshiped him.
